I like Timmy. He's kind, gentle, understanding, non-confrontational, knows the bible very well, dependable, and consistent. Recently, I had a personal crisis that could have been devastating, and Timmy was one of the first I contacted. I didn't ask him to pray but I said, "If you ever would, I could sure use it." I trust him.

He also has a great understanding of the church and how it operates. He sees the power of community and has some great perspectives of the redemptive potential of the church. I haven't asked what he does for a living but I get the impression his business sense is very good.

So I once told Timmy I wish he lived here in my area and would love to have him in our church (we openly embrace those who don't wear the label of "Christian") and if he did I'd have him on our church board.

I mentioned it in another thread today and that idea didn't exactly go over very well.

So....what do you think. Would you have him on your church board considering the qualities I mentioned?
ABSOLUTELY NOT!

And I like Timmy, have no problem with him whatsoever. He would be welcome in my church all day long, and treated well. But as for being on the church board, he needs to come to an understanding and acceptance of the gospel. I do think if oyur on the church board you ought to be saved. The church isn't a social club, it is the body of Christ.

Why not have a pastor who does not believe in the bible, then. (Oh,.... that does exist in mainline denominations. Sorry. )

BTW, got your card today! Thanks bro. Wonderful family!

I am speaking of the Board of Directors, in essence, a business board that oversees financial distributions and administrative structure.

I think he would have an interesting attending our church. We have a lot of people that attend that aren't "Christians."

A man who serves as head of our compassion ministry, delegating charitable contributions into our community, helping both womens crisis center and mens shelter

Many of you wouldn't touch him. he smokes. Well he was smoking when he started this minisrty. He has succesfully quit smoking now for close to a year.

I recently had a 58 yr old man read from the word, from the pulpit, a selected reading from Psalms. He at that time was still smoking and i had recently spent an all nighter with him, as he had relapsed into a meth addiction.
Many of you wouldn't touch him as he is a 4 yr graduate of a UPC bible school, backslid , divorced, remarried looser.

But God didn't let me pick who I would reach out to, so I continue to minister God's love to guys like this...and today he is doing better, much better and hopes one day to have a ministry helping others who struggle with addictions.

We have had two women on our church board, whose counsel we have appreciated in making financial decisions.

The question remains would we have Timmy on our board. Timmy professes to be agnostic or whatever and although I appreciate Timmy's wit and wisdom, if Timmy came to our church and continued to NOT profess Christ we probably not have him on our church board.

But say Timmy did come to my church and had a talent in contracing and building and was willing to help us in a new building for example. We would welcome Timmys councel on these matters.

I like that. This Christmas we supplied a local girl's home with gifts. Most of the gifts were inspired and given by a lady in our church who is not a "Christian." She is a great addition to our church and is highly respected, welcomed, accepted, and brings a lot of people to church. There are many things in the church she would be capable of leading, and I would have no problem with her doing that. She loves the precepts of Christ but just isn't sure about the whole "God thing." We're more than willing to encourage her to progress at her own pace.

Hey Timmy, my church is in the area..lol

It's a lot more like what I've seen NoW describe than anything else I've ever seen described here. Is actually a sort of place that kind of blows my mind regularly...

I mean, they're gonna let *me* work with the kids....

Re: Would You Put Timmy On Your Church Board?

I love Timmy as much as I possibly can-- only knowing him from AFF and never meeting him in person.

From what I know of Timmy, the answer would be a firm, "No."

Maybe after Timmy became rooted and grounded as a Christian again, there would be space for him to serve in that capacity. However, it would completely inappropriate for him to serve in that capacity, right now.

However, I don't have a church board and I don't really think Timmy would be interested in being on the board of a church right now, any way.

Having said that I'd like to meet Timmy someday and see what the real Timmy is really like.........

You'd be welcome to bring Lassie along as well......
