I frequently preach Galatians 5:16 which says if we walk in the Spirit, we will not fulfill the desires of the flesh. I talk more about what TO DO, than what NOT to do. Galatians 5 also says the works of the flesh are obvious. I don't spend a lot of time talking about obvious things. So more than preaching "against" things, I like to speak "FOR" things.

If I just yelp about what people shouldn't be doing?.....they already know they shouldn't. Doesn't do any good for me to just yelp about it. But if I can equip them with the necessary tools, such as "Walking in the Sprit", then I have the confidence that they won't be fulfilling the desires of the flesh!
Be sure and hit on that whole "fruit of the Spirit" thing also. One observation I have made both in the UPC and out in the exUPC / Charismatic world is that this is a subject not taught or preached on nearly enough.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Quote from Ethel Goss (widow of 1st UPC Gen Supt. Howard Goss) book "The Winds of God"

I LOVE the "Fruit" subject. I'd say that I've said more about The Fruit (singular, not plural), and Galatians 5:16 than any other subject in my preaching life.
