Re: Scott Graham: Ultra con darling?

Uh hum, that was a little bit uncalled for, eh? Let's all be nice.

I am not surprised that he preached on holiness...that is what he believes. There is nothing wrong with that! And yes, I know I am liberal, but I do respect what he preached at a UPC camp...thus that might explain why he preached on holiness

I agree, Barb. In my UPC days, we would send, for example, a youth group to a youth camp. We would feel VERY take advantage of when they would get torn to shreds with standards and often it was very much personal opinion stuff. It was one of the things that drove us out.

Well, really, I don't have an opinion on that...well yes, I do...I left the UPC. I did not like it when all I ever heard about were standards. BUT...standards and outward holiness is what the UPC believes and what this individual lives and preaches. I will defend the fact that if this is what this organization believes, then they have a right to preach it. What venues they choose might be up for debate just because there might be some new converts sitting there going, huh? But again, I will defend his right to preach what he feels led to preach...and I guess I will defend his right to preach that wherever he feels led to preach it...

I just wish this thread wasn't about a someone in particular. God help us if we are going to start saying what and where something can be preached...seriously...

Re: SG: Ultra con darling?

Don't you think the state of Michigan that invited the speaker to be there, already knew what was going to be taught??

Can't say for sure, as I haven't been to camp in ions.

As I just stated in another post, this type of preaching at camp wasn't the norm back in the day.

It may be more welcomed today than it once was...can't say. The elder is a fine man (my brother and he are friends), and a great preacher.

AG, I agree about the name thing, and in that, one must consider the author of the thread.

Re WHAT was preached, as Sis. A said, the minister and I probably agree on most of what was said. It is the venue that has ALWAYS troubled me...

I am much older than you, and can remember camp meetings in my youth. They were about seeing the young people saved, and preaching a clothesline/party line type message was not part of it, at least here.

When an elder from CA came here in the 70s and began preaching all of that, it was not well received, and not because MI is a liberal state.

There are certain things that are pastor material, but that is just my opinion...
