Whether you choose to admit it or not, people remember more of what they see than what they hear. This is a known fact. The sad thing is, my co-worker who is a sinner, will admit that Hollywood pushes sin. She'll admit it, but no one on this forum will. That's just sad.

I highly doubt any christian at all would say that Hollywood does not push sin. We all know Hollywood does but what wea are saying is you can regulate what is watched on a TV just as easy as any other form of enterainment.
Facebook has adds popping up on the side all the time for different things and sometimes those products or images arent always pure! Also radio is just like TV, you turn to the channel you know is ok and dont allow the others to be on!!! VERY SIMPLE STAN

I think everyone admits Hollywood represents sin because they don't know God. All things on tv are not sinful or pushing sin. If it works best for your family to abstain from tv or watching certain movies that is your decision and what you feel is best.

If I had children in my house I would absolutely have locks on channels that are not suitable just like I would have software on my computer that would not allow certain things to come up..... ITS ALL COMMON SENSE!!!

I don't believe in being over-protective, but we should be in control of what our children view and when, in direct proportion to their level of maturity. As a parent, I know when my child is ready to be educated in various areas, and I'm not going to allow a third person or media source to dictate that for me.
Bottom line--I think it's the content that matters, not the technology, but content DOES matter. Protecting your children (and yourself) from certain content is responsible and prudent.

You have been raised good. What a blessing to your children.

Re: Sinful Technology or Sinful Content?
I think some kids see and hear things in some churches they should never have to. Gossiping and backbiting, of course some hear and see that at home too.

Exactly...Stan, Im not saying you are wrong or bad for not having a TV. Growing up me didnt have one and I turned out ok. It wasnt due to religious reasons because my mother wasnt very religious but we didnt have one because she thought it’s a waste of time and wanted us to be out playing or if we were inside we were studying, reading, or playing games, she has a doctorate in Education..Might explain it a bit..ha
It’s ok to feel the way you do about your family and your walk with God but it’s not Ok to say it’s a sin.

Re: Sinful Technology or Sinful Content?
I wonder what the per capita percentage of sinners is/was before and after TV was invented?

Because it's been said before, does not mean it isn't a strong case
I respect your decision to not have a TV - we didn't for many years when I was a kid. My point is that you can demonize the technology all you want, but it is just a medium. There are plenty of good things to watch - some of which comes from Hollywood. I can name you numerous films with strong moral messages.
As an aside (and this may not apply to you), I always hear the anti-Hollywood arguments from people that have no issues with professional sports, and I'd like to suggest that is a bit of a double standard. People talk about the immoral examples set by actors and filmmakers, yet even many pastors have no problem supporting their local sports teams despite the decadence, drug use, alcohol, immorality and everything that goes along with that. I always find that irritating. Stepping down from the soapbox now.
