Many years ago, when I was first in church, I felt guilty about reading certain things like that. But, I forged ahead anyway. The knowledge and understanding that these things brought me made it worth it. I would sift through a dumspter for a few diamonds, no problem. The problem is when you actually like digging through the trash more than you want the diamonds in it. What is your motive? Are you really digging for diamonds or do you like the smell of rotton vegetables? Motive is everything.

These men have great respect in my eyes. I rarely saw it in church, however, where they usually simply condemned the woman as a sexual temptation. Really, where is the problem here?

Roll of the dice I guess.

Well actually the verse reads:
"I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a young woman."
or paraphrased:
"I made a solemn pact with myself never to undress a girl with my eyes."

Clarke commentary:
Job 31:1
I made a covenant with mine eyes - ברית כרתי לעיני berith carati leeynai: “I have cut” or divided “the covenant sacrifice with my eyes.” My conscience and my eyes are the contracting parties; God is the Judge; and I am therefore bound not to look upon any thing with a delighted or covetous eye, by which my conscience may be defiled, or my God dishonored.
Gill:
Job 31:1 I made a covenant with mine eyes,.... Not to look upon a woman, and wantonly gaze at her beauty, lest his heart should be drawn thereby to lust after her; for the eyes are inlets to many sins, and particularly to uncleanness, of which there have been instances, both in bad men and good men, Gen_34:2; so the poet (t) represents the eye as the way through which the beauty of a woman passes swifter than an arrow into the hearts of men, and makes impressions there; see 2Pe_2:14; hence Zaleucus ordered adulterers to be punished, by plucking out the eyes of the adulterer (u); wherefore Job, to prevent this, entered into a solemn engagement with himself, laid himself under a strong obligation, as if he had bound himself by a covenant, made a resolution in the strength of divine grace, not to employ his eyes in looking on objects that might ensnare his heart, and lead him to the commission of sin; he made use of all ways and means, and took every precaution to guard against it; and particularly this, to shut or turn his eyes from beholding what might be alluring and enticing to him: it is said (x) of Democritus, that he put out his eyes because he could not look upon a woman without lusting after her:

Has to look up Russell Crowe too. Never heard of him either. Nah. I'm pretty picky.

Okay, this is bugging me. You know Russell Crowe is much better looking than Matt Damon, girl!

Wantonly. Yeah, I would have a problem with my husband wantonly looking at another woman. But seeing her and seeing she is beautiful? Big deal. Other women exist, yeah, better looking than me. But, I am his wife and he loves me.
