I've never met ONE person who did not testify the same thing. I'm not speaking just of myself here. When you tithe, GOD sees you through. Try it.

I was given a car. A $14,000 car (tax, title, warranty etc). My pastor at the time said I should pay $1400 tithes on that. So I quickly and happily went out and borrowed $1400 to pay the tithe.

I began an immediate spiral into financial ruin that, over 10 years later, we are just now recovering from.

Now you've met one. But nobody tells those stories.

Thats because that dealt with two things. The car and what it was worth. The people in the Bible, when they gave of their possessions, they didn't give the money amount it was worth, they gave a tenth of their possessions. Obviously if you cut a car in 10 pieces it would not work.

That is crazy to demand that from a saint if you ask me.

That's why I slipped into financial ruin?

They gave a tenth of their increase. Their agricultural increase.

Agriculture was their money back then. Again its not scriptural to say you have to pay tithe on a gift that you received. That was a serious misinterpretation of the tithing principle IMO.

They had money all the way back to the times of Abraham.

Wrong... there was money back then. Research it. The tithe was specifically connected to the Land. Even Jews today don't tithe. Why? First, there isn't a priesthood to tithe to. Second, tithing would only apply to those farmers living within the boarders of Israel.

And what money was that? Only the money for the land in which they lived. Actually Solomon had gold and much wealth but doesn't speak much of the currency of old Israel. Much of the transactions came from gold, jewelry, land deeds, etc. Do you think I haven't studied it? Agriculture was the prime industry where bartering came from in that day. Lambs, sheep, oxen, etc. Not everyone had money in the "bank" or much jewelry or gold. Alot of precious metals were used in royalty and in the army.

As is any assumption that agriculture was their money back then. To keep from reposting my 16,700 character response to the age old "It was an agrarian society" statement.

Please see the following links. This is my response to this statement in a previous thread.
