Why is it a slap in God's face? And how could it be considered selfish and disrespectful if that is what the departed has requested be done with their body after death? If you are not following their wishes, then I think that would be disrespectful.

If my dear mother prefers for her flesh to be burned to ashes, then I would thank her by respecting her wishes.

Besides, the Bible talks about how from dust we are created and to dust we will return. Being sealed in an air tight casket so that nature cannot take it's course doesn't seem quite right to me somehow.

I don't think cremation is right for everybody. But I think for those who prefer it, there is nothing wrong with it. Just like I think that if you want to spend your hard earned money on a vault that will keep your body in-tact until the Rapture happens, that is also your choice. But I truly do not believe that God gives a rotten banana which way you choose.

For those who advocate letting nature take its course, embalming is about the worst thing you can do... I know it keeps us from smelling so that you have a few days to have the funeral, but it's pretty gross if you ask me (no offense NLYP)

Whatever the departed requested in life or in death if it's ungodly or paganistic then we can't fulfill it. It's from their evil rituals that have to do with re-incarnation. they have no regard for the God we serve. Did you ever read where jesus, the Prophets or the servants of God were cremated??? If they was burned it was an Evil act.
the act of burial is the most respected form of disposing of that which our Lord created. come on Marg you ought to know better

CC, You can still "bury" her. My sister was cremated, per her wishes. She had remarried a great guy who she had only been married to for five years when she passed away. She lived in Knoxville and her husband and their family and her inlaws had a memorial service up there and he let us have her remains to bring home with us. It was not an "urn" as you see on TV but actually looked like a mini granite chest.

We had a memorial service down here for her and my folks had planned to purchase a plot and bury the chest. They are procrastinators and did not do it before my dad was diagnosed with cancer just a few short months later. He only lived six weeks after finding this out. When my mom, sister, and I went to make arrangements, we had her buried in the gravesite. The headstone has all three names and looks very classy.

I don't know how most people handle the remains of one that has been cremated, but we felt like we were putting hers to rest just as we did my dad's.
