Gardening time- Scam Beware!

Billy May's Awesome Auger

I have seen this advertised last year and was very interested in it. I have checked the stores around here and can't find it. My SIL has something similiar that she bought at a hardware store in her state that works fine. Of course, she has sandy soil.

So I decided to look into this and was very glad I did. I have posted one example of MANY. Same story; charged way more than the advertised 19.99 push 8.95 S&H. Many had the order doubled on them. Could not proceed without giving your CC number first, then you couldn't get out of the system, couldn't delete order.

No satisfaction in talking to someone that was willing to help.

I responded to the Awesome Auger infomercial by attempting to order one by phone. After they tried to bait and switch several times, I cancelled the order right there. They shipped something anyway, 6 weeks later and billed $108! It was supposed to be $19.95. The supposedly "customer service" line is always busy and you can never get through. I have had numerous emails back and forth. The company refuses to refund my money. I finally sent complaints to the Better Business Bureau and Attorney General of New York, where the parent company is. Everyone else should send a complaint to the NY Attorney General's consumer protection group so maybe they will do something about this. Address is Westchester Regional Office, Office of the []. I have been waiting for some action since October, 2008.

Re: Gardening time- Scam Be Aware

Around here Walgreens Stores have a small area where you can buy some of the stuff you see advertised on tv. I don't know how the prices compare but at least you can see what you are buying and there wouldn't be any extra shipping and handling charges and no pushy sales person and no, "but wait, there's more."

I have looked around here and not found it.

I read where on guy said he bought his on "asseenontv" and didn't encounter that, so I don't know???

I'm leary about it now. So many said it burned up their drills, really quick. One said his was a $300.00 drill, not a cheap drill.

Re: Gardening time- Scam Beware!

Esther, same story here. Ordered the auger, the extension, and the drill which "came with it".

Hit my card for close to $100.00, they charged separate shipping for each item. Saw the charge, never opened the box, wrote refused on it and sent it back on their dime.

Took about three weeks to get my money refunded, but they finally did.

Wow, seems a "normal" story with them. Did you order direct from Billy Mays or through "Asseenontv"?

Re: Gardening time- Scam Beware!

If you are charged through either your bank or your credit card, deny you approved the charges and the bank and CC will refund your money. Had that happen to me once.

I am so disappointed! I thought Billy May was making everybody's life so much better with all of his gadgets.

You know I was surprised to hear nearly as many complaints on his "fix it" putty.
