Re: BMI

I don't think gluttony is the reason many people are overweight. Some yes, but not all.

I think it has more to do with the fact that the standard American diet is horrible and most people, including the USDA, have no real clue what a healthy diet is.

Plus, once you are overweight, and have damaged your body's metabolism, you do not have to overeat to remain overweight.

It's easy to point fingers, but it's a complex issue, and I believe different solutions are needed for different people/body types.

And just for the record, my BMI falls within the normal range.

It has a lot to do with the commercialization of food, generations ago, people just ate whole food, now it's processed, preserved, and packaged and often not very healthy.

I think it takes a lot of effort to learn to eat healthy and obtain a healthy weight in our society.

Gratz on a normal BMI btw

We can thank God you have been delivered from the demons of anorexia.

There are just as many maladaptive attitudes and wasted thoughts on all the other eating disorders. Some people invest very much time in sttudying food ingredients and now organic and hormone free. I just pray God will bless the food for nourishment and He does. I think God places more weight on prayer life, burdin for the lost, praise and gratitude.

Re: BMI

According to my BMI, I'm overweight. I live a relatively healthy lifestyle, although stress and laziness do best me sometimes.

From my perspective (as someone who once struggled with an eating disorder) it's still hard to hear, even though I try to be happy with myself now. Just thinking out loud.

my doctor tells me:

a healthy (best longevity) BMI for women is 22-23,

and a healthy (best longevity) BMI for men is 24-25.

for people who train hard with weights, the BMI can be a little higher.
So are we believing Old Testament sins and standards are valid again???? Its hard to keep up with any kind of consistancy on this forum..

Gluttony is mentioned in the New Testament when they accused Jesus of gluttony.. Tell me my friends how can they accuse Jesus of gluttony unless he was fat????

Luke 7:34 The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!

If gluttony is based on weight then Jesus must have been fat for the rumors to spread..

Unless gluttony means something else.......

I think I know...

Re: BMI

Gluttony is one of those sins that is just a little bit hard to define. After all at what bite does a person go from being "perfect" to being in a sinful state? At what impossibly thin line does food go from being "good" to being overly processed and thus no different then smoking tobacco (since both are bad the ol temple)? Thus is the problem with trying to define sin in a binary manner.

Re: BMI

gluttony is an endomorphic psychosomatotype. An indulgent or pleasuring attitude to food. Not all gluttons are heavy.

Re: BMI

I realize now that my original post was not politically correct, in that for some it is offensive, mainly because it isn't well worded i think.

My original thought was that we are so zealous for our beliefs and comfortable with pointing out that someone is on their way to hell for not believing like we do, yet trying to bring our weight under control, which is a major health concern, isn't given the same consideration as other areas where we miss the mark, i.e., pride, lying, drinking, ect.

But on second thought when I realize that I have hurt peoples feelings, I would honestly rather just apologize and chalk it up to insensitivity on my part, not malice.

So, if Admin wishes to just delete the thread as it's un productive, please feel free to do so.

Re: BMI

It is not the thread, Amanah. It is just that people don't like to be called out when they are offending people. None of us do.
