Re: The Avengers!

When I think Avengers I think the old British spy show with Patrick McNee as John Steed and when at its best Dianna Rigg as Emma Peel.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Garbage movie? Light fun, sure. What is your idea of a non-garbage movie?

I watched Warriors last night with Tom Hardy (or Bane, as I like to call him). Good movie.

Did you know the charactrers name "Emma Peel" was a takeoff on "M appeal", short for "man appeal"? When they created the character they wanted a beautiful but tough woman who men would like. It worked! I have memories as a kid around 11 or 12 being at someones house (we didn't have a tv of course) and watching The Avengers. I was in love with England and Dianna Rigg.

I tell ya, those Brits and the names they give their lady characters. If it isn't Emma Peal, it is Honey Ryder, Plenty O'Toole, Xenia Onatopp or the grand daddy (momma) of them all, .......... Galore. The last four of course being from various James Bond films.
