Re: Prominent Memphis Area Pastor Resigns

To those from the Memphis church asking about Bro. Ron Brown, I have known the man for over 20 years. He used to pastor a church in the town where I lived for a few years before going into the position he has now. The pastor I had over me knew him and considered him a very good friend. He is a man of honor and integrity.

He is also no "newbie" by any stretch of the imagination! So the folks that are still going to the Memphis church can be assured that he is a good man and he has had experience in pastoring a large church.

To all those Memphis church folks, I will say that I am deeply saddened by all of this. But know that the hearts and prayers of people on this board are with you.

I hope you can find peace weather you decide to stay or go.

It may help you at the Memphis church to also know that the church I now attend had our pastor have to step down about the exact same time that Bro. Black stepped down, but our pastor had to resign for health reasons as he was getting weaker and not getting any better. So believe me...I KNOW how you must feel. I am probably one of the few on this board that can actually share your pain...even though both our pastors stepped down under different circumstances, it still hurts to know they are gone.

I felt kind of punched in the gut when our pastor announced he was resigning for health reasons. I came to find out that they threatened to put him in the hospital not two weeks before he finally made his decision because he was so weak, but he begged the doctors to just get him strong enough to stay out of the hospital so that he could take care of some things.....seems he was thinking about us...the church... because I know for a fact he never would have wanted us to be without a pastor unless it had come to to this.

His dad which used to be my pastor years ago has taken over temporarily, but the poor man is 70 years old and had a couple of toes removed because he is a diabetic. So he cannot stand in one place for a long time or simply stand still without it hurting him. He is simply not the man he was 20 years ago, so our church is also searching for a new pastor.

We will be in prayer for the Memphis church.

AMEN! These people have had a lot of pain thrown at them. I hope they can have some joy in their lives as well.

After all, I DO understand what they are going through in wondering what kind of a new pastor they will have as we at our church have had the same questions.

But I have made up my mind that as far as me personally...I am going to LEAVE MY MIND blank when it comes to a new pastor.

I am NOT going to fill my mind with what I think he should be.

Because I think that decision should be left up to GOD.... and HE will make sure when the right man comes through the door, that he let's the church know..."this IS the pastor you have been waiting for".

The bible says "Who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him?" Well I sure don't!

Therefore, I have made up my mind that whoever GOD puts in...I am going to be completely satisfied and happy with that choice.

After all, I TRUST GOD to make that choice...a whole lot more than I trust myself or man to make that choice. But the people of God must do thier part also, they have to be sure and pray and seek the face of God for wwho God wants in the church.

My Former pastor said this years ago and now that he is temporarily in that position again, he said it a couple of sundays ago...

He said..."If a church has a pastor that steps down for whatever reason and they are searching for a new one...but yet do NOT take the time to pray, fast and seek the face of God...then if that church get's a "hireling" instead of a real pastor....that they SHOULD NOT BLAME GOD ON THAT ONE!

Because the point he was making was that yes, there are some things only God can do for us....but...there are other things he also expects us to do for ourselves. God will hear our prayers, but he will not pray for us....just the same as a teacher can help tutor you in how you handle a problem, but when test time comes, they cannot take the test for you, you have to do that for yourself.

I think the old saying "God helps those that help themselves" is very true in cases like this. Even though that is not a scripture in the bible...this is...

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

Sometimes we wait on God......and he is waiting on US!
