Question? Is that Dayton Christian School in the background?

Aquila,

Discipleship is something more basic than the Apex guy is saying. It includes those things but discipleship itself to Jesus is forsaking all to follow. Yes I understand in his 3 points he is saying that but I have several friends and a daughter who have been there and I would have a hard time fitting Apex into what I am stressing in the video. House Church does not automatically equal discipleship.

Re: Are You A Disciple Of Jesus?

MTD: Just had some time this afternoon to listen to this, and it was wonderful teaching. Teaching that you will never hear in a mainstream church arena. Being a disciple of Christ, isn't like believing in a "Santa Claus" type figure that just gives you everything you want... which is a very comman message taught today.

Being a disciple of Christ means having an understanding that this world that we live in is only temporary, and the world to come is the world where our lives will really begin. So the cost that we pay in this world to be a disciple, cannot even be compared to the world that is to come. Paul said we have been given the "earnest" of our inheritance through the Spirit... just a foretaste of glory to come.

Counting the cost in this life with an understanding of eternity makes all the difference in the life of a disciple of Christ.

I agree with your premise, that new believers should be taught to count the cost, as you mentioned in Luke 14. Too many times it is more about getting them to the initial salvation experience, counting the number and moving on. But indeed, counting the cost, and picking up your cross... is part of salvation, and being a disciple/Christian.

I hope everyone on here listens to it, although sadly, I don't think they will. It is much more fun to argue politics, or standards, than to count the cost that Christ speaks of.
