Re: Alienated Church: Father's and Mother's day

I sense a lot of pain on this thread. The past has to be let go of if one desires to move forward. We're not as alone as we think. And our loved ones are not as far as it might seem. So be not afraid to give them honor, even if it is honoring their memory.

Spiritually speaking... the church is our mother and God is our Father. If we don't have an earthly mother or father that we can honor... let us honor our spiritual mother and father.

I think you've hit on the truth, Aquila.

Praxeas needed to vent his hurt, anger, and bitterness and chose to do so online on a day set aside to honor fathers. I hope this has been cathartic for him.

While I can't intrude on Pax, I can say that for many the opportunity to vent, even if it is to scream it out... can be healing.

There was no anger in the first post until the pharisees showed up and calling me selfish,

I have a genuine concern not just for me but for visitors that come to a program expecting a service. For the teen aged girl whose father is in prison and has to sit there for an hour of "My father is so great".

It's amazing the level of insensitivity we can get from both Liberals and Conservatives

Re: Alienated Church: Father's and Mother's day

1 Corinthians 13:1* ¶ Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2* And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3* And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4* ¶ Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5* Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6* Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7* Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8* ¶ Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
9* For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10* But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
11* When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
12* For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
13* And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Re: Alienated Church: Father's and Mother's day

I'm surprised at the overreaction to Mother's/Father's Day celebrations. I think it's important to recognize the role of the Mother and Father. Our society and administration is doing everything they can to de-emphasize the roles and remove any importance of those roles in the family unit and in society. The Bible says to give honor to whom honor is due.

Do some go overboard, perhaps; but the overwhelming majority don't.

We had both a Mother's and Father's Day celebration. Both services were awesome, God moved and people were blessed. It wasn't over the top...just a short video tribute and the messages had a slight focus on Mothers and Fathers, but could also apply to all present.

It's important for the church to recognize, lift up, and promote the roles of Mothers and Fathers. Especially in the age in which we live.
