I believe that we are tri-part beings. We have a body (biological form), soul (mind/psyche), and spirit (living essence). Problems can exist in any one of these parts and thereby affect the others. For example, someone with a genetic or chemical imbalance in the brain has a problem in the "body". However, this also affects the "soul" (or mind). Fixing this can be an issue of diet, medication, or divine healing. Problems rooted in the "soul" (mind) can be resolved through counseling and renewing the mind in accordance to Scripture. Divine healing is also affective for the mind when employed. The disposition of the body and/or the soul can greatly affect the wellbeing of the spirit, though it doesn't alter or change the spirit.
That's my take on it.
