No Shave November:

As most know, it is No Shave November, a time to grow your beard (or mustache) and discuss men's health and other men's interests. I found this article rather interesting...

Coffee may reduce risk of lethal prostate cancer in men...

The best part of waking up (without prostate cancer) is Folgers in your cup...

Re: No Shave November:

Okay... so let me get this straight...

According to these studies we should consider the following:
- Drinking 6 or more cups of coffee a day reduces a man's chances for developing prostate cancer by 20%.

- Having 20 or more sexual conquests in a lifetime reduces a man's chances for developing prostate cancer by 28%.
If we combine these findings we can assume the following...
- By drinking six or more cups of coffee a day and engaging regular love making with 20 or more women... a man could conceivably reduce his chances of prostate cancer by 48%. That's almost 50%!
With that in mind, I have to ask...

What are the odds of a man finding 20 or more "very open minded" baristas? 99.9% of men aren't all that lucky. The other 0.1% are lying. I wonder... What if a man made love to a cup of coffee 6 or more times a day??? The same thing that would happen to a man tried to juggle over 20 women! He'd get BURNED!!! ... or come down with some strange disease nick named "the beanie weenie". Definitely not worth it.

The study relating to frequency of sex also found that men who are virgins are almost twice as likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer as those who are sexually experienced. I guess this is one reason you geeks out there need to drop your game controller and get some real "game" real fast. No girl cares about your kill ration in Call of Duty nor that you know the name of every alien race and character in the Star Wars Saga. This is life or death, dude. Take a shower, get a hair cut, and buy some classy cologne, move out of your mom's, get your own place, mingle! The mindless fun of "Geekdom" is not worth dying over. Trade your Xbox 360 in for a subscription to GQ before it's too late.

I really feel sorry for those guys who have never escaped the "Friend Zone" and can't handle a strong cup of coffee. According to these studies, unless you're a java guzzling King Solomon... you stand a good chance of being a statistic.

Re: No Shave November:

I saw that report about 20+ women, as though the number of different women should matter. Just have sex with your wife! Or, in Biblical terms, enjoy the wife of thy youth!

As for No-Shave November, I actually started growing a beard around a month or so ago! I suffered past the itchy stage and now have a beard. I did trim it down a couple times because it does not lay flat!

Any bearded men have tips on how to tame the beard?

Interestingly, I've noticed people respond differently to me with a beard vs when I was clean shaven. I was told a lot before the beard that I look young still, so that could be some of it, since the beard has grown in with flecks of gray mixed in the normal hair color.

Most have eradicated traditional manhood to the point where it's "hip" to be "metrosexual" in style. And good grief... not shaving? They probably think the notion is of the devil.

There are oils. I've just used my conditioner and I brush it down real well.

That has been my experience. I've always been told that I'm "baby faced". Well, my beard came in and today I look my age. Not to mention, the little lady really likes it. That's always a plus.

Re: No Shave November:

BEARDS ARE HEALTHY

A study from the University of Southern Queensland, published in the Radiation Protection Dosimetry journal, found that beards block 90 to 95 percent of UV rays. Thereby slowing the aging process and reducing the risk of skin cancer.

Beards protect against asthma for the Pollens and dust simply get stuck in the facial hair which act like a filter.

Additionally the beard retains moisture and protects against the wind, preventing dry skin and it also keeps the skin smooth and a man looking young and fresh-faced.

Most people are unaware that hair is an insulator that keeps you warm during cold weather and prevent sickness. When a thick beard has grown under the chin and neck it will raise the temperature of the neck and will help to battle colds.

Shaving actually causes health problem for it increases the risk of skin cancer, ingrown hairs and causes bacterial infections that lead to acne.

Forgoing the razor doesn't just hide blemishes—it actually prevents them. "Razor rash, acne, and folliculitis [hair-follicle inflammation] are often the result of shaving," said Dr. Shannon C. Trotter, a fellow of the Osteopathic College of Dermatology and a dermatologist at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. "Razors can irritate the skin or even spread bacteria, causing an infection of the hair follicle."
