What is the difference in the ordinations
What does each level means?
Back in the 70's and early 80's the only books required were the Pentecostal bible study, By Rohn, United We Stand, and the bible. This was for all three degrees of ministry.

The difference between local, General and Ordination.
Local License, meant that you could preach, but you were not supposed to perform baptisms nor marriages. Although one could hold the position of Assistant Pastor.

General License one could perform baptisms, marriages, and pastor. The difference between General and Ordination was that you had proven your ministry, and then Ordained. There was a two or four year time period between each degree. With the exception of Local to General. That was only two years.

Back then a three or four year bible school graduate could skip the local step and receive a General license, but still had to go before the district in which he was going to reside in, if he wanted to license with that state.

Hope this helps your question.

A note on the reading list, I notice that it has grown quite a bit. And I agree with Scott Pitta and Praxeas

Interesting.....

In my opinion, in this day and age, the only difference in the three licenses is the price of the dues.

So if I read all these books I could apply for membership as a minister in the UPCI

that is Kewl man, I will see if my public library carries those books.

the only thing that worries me about applying for the UPCI license, is the marriage thingy, now days I might have to marry Adam and Steve?

Remember this was in my day, and I have been out of UPCI for 15 plus years. Don't know if things have changed but I can't think they have that much. Because the levels of ministerial criteria were set as a proving ground before ordination. For myself, I went for my General license because I was starting a new home missions work, and could not do so unless I was general licensed. I carried General license for almost ten years, although I had fulfilled all the requirements for ordination, I never did apply because I did not see the need. I then let my credentials lapse because I had become disillusioned by the financial requirements. I stayed in UPCI another 10 years during which time I was still respected as a minister by most. Essp. in our local church.
I completely left UPCI over other doctrinal issues.

Yes in essence you could, with on stipulation, you must first be a member in good standing in a local UPCI church.

From what I've been told, without checking into it myself, where I live in WI, all newly licensed ministers are being required to graduate from Purpose Institute before licensing.

Maybe someone with more firsthand knowledge can fact check that?
I was ordained UCPI in Wis. They had everyone read "The Purpose Driven Work" by Warren for licensing. Do they still require that?

I don't know. I never pursued licensing. My brother was pursuing it for a while, and had a lot of additional required reading beyond the basic list set forth by the UPCI.

I seem to recall he had to watch a bunch of leadership videos created by John Maxwell.

Ah yes, JM!

I went rounds with the board over these videos.

LOL

Seems like a long time ago.
