Mike, who is "ye" in the verse?

Why won't you answer Brother Blume's post?

20 And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.
When in history did this event happen?

Sean do you think days will be less than twenty four hours according to that verse?

Not really, it likely means that the last 3.5 years will be shortened to keep the planet from complete annihilation.
Now show me when this happened in 70ad.
Thanks.

Nothing to do with the planet. It had to do with Jerusalem... the Jewish people would have been wiped out if God did not step in and stop the number of days to which the destruction would have otherwise gone on. He spoke of FLESH, not the planet.

Re: He has it all figured out! Thank God for Googl
How to know that the texts of the New Testament, Mark and John and Revelation, and etc. were written to and for a 1st century audience? Real simple:
1.) They were written in the 1st century
2.) They were written in the lingua franca of the 1st century
3.) They reference events that took place in the 1st century
4.) They contain geographical, demographical, and historical elements that trace to the 1st century
5.) The cast of characters that they contain are all 1st century people
6.) They were disseminated in the 1st century
7.) They were copied and preserved in the 1st century
8.) They were used as evangelistical tools in the 1st century
9.) They were recognized and quoted as authoritative in the 1st century
10.) The intended audience who first read them lived in the 1st century

Sean, who was Theophilus and why did Luke address his Gospel to him? And in what century did Theophilus live and die?

Of course some of the books had an intended audience.
That is in every epistle also.
John and Mark(especially John) had a targeted audience of ALL readers....
31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
That is the discussion here.
Now, why are you including yourself in Theophilus'/all epistles' mail as applicable to your life?
Right, because your ancient brethren in the faith consider their mail, your mail.
The N.T. was never intended,( as preterists have segregated it), to be a commentary of the "former church's" documentary of events, but a continuation of experience, doctrinal and prophetical events.

Sean, maybe your disagreement with what is being said about John is due to a comprehension problem on your part?
To test this, please answer the following in your own words:
What is meant by "the Bible is not written TO us"?
What is meant by "the Bible is written FOR us"?

No, you are wrong about John.
You have made "ye" into "they".
My wife is totally neutral and cares less about our arguments.(thinks we are crazy for arguing...LOL)
I wanted to see at first glance, as an experiment, who she thought the last verse in John was intended for.
She read it.
I asked her, "who is "ye" talking to?".
She said, "me".
Now, here is what you do....
Do a random poll of non doctrinal believers and come back with your results.
You will find that "ye" is everyone reading it. It is an open ended scripture.
