"Hummmmmm" such a catchy title for a post.

I don't know much about all these flags, but I once heard a Preacher preach about Standards on a paperwood hauling truck, and why it was important to have them, and the necessity for having them, and what would happen if they weren't there. But on with the show.

I went back to my post in search of somewhere that I may have mentioned Dress Standards but all I could find was standards of a paperwood hauling truck.

I'm thankful my pastor encourages me to read and study my bible too. Actually he encourages us to read it through anually. Which I have done for some seven years thus far.

Most of those that have a "problem" with "standards" really have a problem with being told that standards are heaven or hell issues. Some may be, but I think most are a matters of obedience and personal conviction. Standards can bring safety and uniformity.

I do agree 100% that they are preached to bring safety and uniformity. The other stuff you said is too simplified. Those who have a problem with standards are concerned that the BIBLE does not indicate, teach, or give explicit direction or indication to where standards relate collectively to the precious gospel of grace.

I have heard Apostolic preachers say things like, "there is nothing you can do in your own efforts to be holy..."

I just don't get that.

I also kind of chuckle when preachers make statements such as, "there is only ONE way, ONE way to heaven, being baptized in Jesus name and speaking in tongues as the spirit giveth the utterance, living a holy life of separation from the world (standards), being faithful to church and paying your tithes, and prayer..."

Fit THAT into a song.

One one one
one way to God
one one one
one way to God
one one one
one way to God,
Baptized in Jesus name and speaking in tongues as the spirit giveth the utterance, living a holy life of separation from the world (standards), being faithful to church and paying your tithes, and prayer...

Funny thing is we live the good life because of standards.....just think about standards of measure......they make for cooking and baking from a recipe a wonderful experience......they make for buying the right clothes size less than traumatic.....it makes for buying thinks by the pound or ounce fair......

Could we live without those standards??? Sure, but would you want too?

Of course, but a standard IS a standard. There is ONE atomic clock, a standard is something that cannot be challenged because it has been proven to be a fact time and time and time again.

Apostolic Standards are anything BUT standard.
