I do agree 100% that they are preached to bring safety and uniformity. The other stuff you said is too simplified. Those who have a
problem with standards are concerned that the BIBLE does not indicate, teach, or give explicit direction or indication to where standards relate collectively to the precious gospel of grace.
I have heard Apostolic preachers say things like, "there is nothing you can do in your own efforts to be holy..."
I just don't get that.
I also kind of chuckle when preachers make statements such as, "there is only ONE way, ONE way to heaven, being baptized in Jesus name and speaking in tongues as the spirit giveth the utterance, living a holy life of separation from the world (standards), being faithful to church and paying your tithes, and prayer..."
Fit THAT into a song.
One one one
one way to God
one one one
one way to God
one one one
one way to God,
Baptized in Jesus name and speaking in tongues as the spirit giveth the utterance, living a holy life of separation from the world (standards), being faithful to church and paying your tithes, and prayer...
