Bro. Epley, I understand where you're coming from...kind of...but I just don't think that wearing white on the wedding day is really going to change things in the long run. If you have a couple that is committing fornication, then will they have a problem lying about it so they can wear the white garb?
Then those who confessed their sins and repented are forced to wear the scarlet letter? That doesn't add up, really.

I know a girl that got pregnant right before the wedding. Everything was bought, paid for, delivered. The pastor wouldn't allow any of the bridesmaids nor any of the wedding party to participate.
They are divorced today. Perhaps he saw something down the road. I don't know.

Perhaps the divorce was his fault, for causing the wedding to be called off right befor the wedding!

No one wears a scarlet letter they wear a beige or off white dress it is just a distinction to reward those who keep themselves and not necessarily a punishment to those who don't but a reward to the godly kids who learned to say no. I have married more than one couple who failed but repented and are happily married and want their children to wear white.
Remember the bride was arrayed in fine line and WHITE. A good picture.

Bro. Epley, I would chide my own daughters about how inappropriate it would be to wear white, if they weren't virgins, God forbid. But I suppose, if I were a pastor, (which I'm not) I would have a hard time telling daughters who weren't my own what they could wear on their wedding day. And I don't know that it does a lot of good coming from the church. I could be wrong. I've been wrong before.
I've already discussed the importance of purity and the symbolism of the white wedding dress with my 11 and 9 year old daughters, and I will continue to discuss it with them at every opportunity.
Scarlet Letter was overstated...I didn't suspect that you made them wear harlot's RED...LOL!!!!
I suppose if its gently presented.... (the dress color)
Now, if someone is living in fornication, or refuses to repent...then a church wedding isn't appropriate at all. There's a staunch opinion for you.
