James 5
1. Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
3. Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

Friends, my purpose was not to sound apocolyptic.
I just thought this would be an interesting conversation to have.
Who among us really believes we will never experience another terrorist attack?
Ever?
I think that is all our government is trying to drive home. The idea that, even with their best efforts, it is impossible to prevent every attack.

I am eliminating debt but not backstocking food.
Although I am preparing to raise a few animals and a nice sized garden on the house we closed on yesterday.
God sent us an unbelievable deal buying a repo property from a bank and we bought the house with a cash closing yesterday... no mortgage.
I do firmly believe that a major financial collapse is just around the corner and this is a direction our family feels is wise.
It just so happens, though, that this is a direction we have wanted to go in for some time.
It isn't that we feel this direction is all of a sudden wise now... it is that we feel that this is a wise and blessed direction with or without a financial collapse.

From what I've read , at the very least, in case of an emergency like a terrorist attack, hurricane, electrical blackout etc, every household should have some canned goods, a flashlight and fresh batteries, a few gallons of bottled water, and some cash in an envelope.
Its also good to have a known meeting place to meet up in case cell the cell phone system is ouit of service in the case of such an emergency situation.

Re: Are You Eliminating Debt/Backstocking Food?
I've been working on eliminating debt and being a better steward of what God has blessed me with..
not for some doomesday threat...but b/c it's what God commands us to do.
And if we are living like we should, God will take care of us if things should get bad. Not that it will be roses and sunshine, but God will provide as he sees fit.

This reminds of the Y2K preparations at the turn of the century.

I think this is different. I have been watching the stock market (casually)since before Y2K. I've never seen anything like this.

The worst thing we can do is panic.
That can hurt the ecomony more then anything else.
People react (and vote) on their emotions too much
