Re: Forum is Ex-Pentecostal??
I didn't read all the posts in this thread.
I voted.
I consider myself to be Apostolic/Pentecostal/Charismatic also Non-denominational and Inter-denominational.
In my opinion:
I am Apostolic because I believe the the New Testament message of Jesus as preached by the Apostles.
I am Pentecostal because I have received the Holy Ghost Baptism (HGB) as did about one fourth of the early church as recorded in Acts chapter 2 and verses 1-4.
I am Charismatic because I believe in the charismata or gifts of the Holy Spirit.
I am non-denominational because the organization with which I am affiliated considers itself to just be part of the NT church not the whole NT church.
I am inter-denominational because I accept anyone who has made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ to be my brother or sister.
I do not like to use words like "oneness" or "trinity" to describe myself because, in my opinion, there is so much variety within each of those groups.
I do believe that God is one: that He is my Father who loves me; He is my Savior who gave His life for me; and He is the Holy Spirit who lives within me.

This poll is private, so no one will know your vote but you.
Sidenote: You decide for yourself what "pentecostal" means.

As to the original question. No, I do not believe AFF is an Ex-Pentecostal forum. But it does seem that those that have decided to remove themselves from the core values that traditional Apostolics hold have become the majority here. This is probably the biggest reason some chose not to frequent AFF any longer on a regular basis.

Traditional Apostolics?
Hopefully the picture I am trying to attach will be legible.
It is the old livery stable at 312 Azusa Street which was the place where the Holy Spirit moved in power from April 1906 for several years. This is usually looked upon as the place from which the message of the HGB (Holy Ghost Baptism) went out to all the world.
Do you see the name painted on the side of the building? It says, "Apostolic Faith Gospel Mission." This was many years before the UPC --even many years before the PAW and probably 20 years before the formation of the Church of Jesus Christ in 1927. These folks called themselves "Apostolic." To them the term meant that the Holy Spirit was being poured out on the church in a special way and that the gifts of the Holy Spirit were being manifested. There were doctrinal differences among those folks. Not all who received and operated in the gifts of the Spirit believed in the "initial physical evidence" doctrine which some teach today. The words used during the ritual of water baptism were not an issue. Some of these folks were from the older "Holiness" groups and practiced some strict dress codes, while others (as mentioned in Bro. Goss' book) wore jewelry and dressed in the style of the day. The common bond was that gifts of the Spirit were being received, operated, and manifested. This would be traditional Apostolic Faith going back before we organized and legislated what we considered to be the real Apostolic faith based on our personal opinions and biases.

Sam, this is a tired old argument.
Surely you realize the emphasis is different?
Those folks were moving to an emphasis on Acts 2:38.
This group is moving away from it.

I don't agree with you on that.
I think we all believe in Acts 2:38.
It's a verse in our Bibles, whatever version (or perversion) we have.
There are just different ways we understand or apply that verse.

Re: Forum is Ex-Pentecostal??
No, AFF is not ex-Pentecostal. If anything the AFF is very Pentecostal. We just have differing viewpoints as would any group of believers...Pentecostal or not.

Exactly.
The clamor for rationalization and tolerance will begin any moment now.
