Those events you described happened sometime AFTER “Black Sunday” – the Sunday GZ told the church that God told him to preach holiness standards, or else He would remove the candlestick from that church AND that man. This was fully described by GZ at the 1982 GC in a closed ministers session. The church did not follow, and he acquiessed.
GZ became a roadside flower vender, and that assembly has ceased to be what it once was. SM was not the source of their problems, he simply capitalized on a direction a congregation choose for themselves, IMHO.
