People who are always looking for fault, can find it easily all they have to do,is look into their mirror.
There they can find plenty of fault.
One of the most controversial gifts, for sure, causing a lot of discord in the church (along with other things, of course). Often faked and seldom called out as fake, so useless as a "sign" or as "initial evidence". Of dubious benefit (some placebo feel-good effect, perhaps). So yeah, I'd say it's the least of the "gifts".
On the plus side, it has caused (IMO) less actual, specific harm than words of knowledge or divine guidance. E.g., nobody has died, far as I know, as a result of tongues. Usually, the worst it does is give the uninitiated a bad case of "the willies".

I think it is a pretty good read.

This article came from a book entitled-Speaking in other tongues -a scholarly defense.
The book can ordered through these people. http://mission.org/jesuspeople
Though I can't agree with them on alot of issues, they have some good articles.

Just how often is it faked? I mean, how do you know?
As a sign to who? If you fake tongues then you have to pretty messed up to accept it as a sign you were filled with the Spirit.
I like what Tenney says "it's the KNOWN tongue you have to worry about. Some people should have tattooed on their forehead 'have tongue will tattle'"

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:
There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
Every sinner must repent of their sins.
That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Well, it seems to be intended as a sign to those nearby, no? Also a sign to the fillee, I suppose. Though even he/she can't tell for sure if it was the real thing. Sure, one can fake tongues without realizing it. You just get caught up in the excitement, the expectation, the adrenaline, following the impulse to blurt out whatever pops into your head. How else would you explain the tongues that occurs in Hindu and other religious practices? Oh. Yeah. Demons. Forgot about them. Of course, if you were led to speak gibberish by a demon, you'd know it, eh?
How often is it faked? My estimate is somewhere around 100%, but that's just me.

"faked" perhaps sometimes, and the ministry is often times guilty of pronouncing the holy ghost on someone who did not recieve it. However, there is absolutly genuine tongues, I do not fake toungues. Neither do I speak often in tongues, but when I do, I do not fake it.
