David Leon Bishop accused of child molestation

The former senior pastor of the First United Pentecostal Church in Redding was arrested Thursday afternoon on suspicion of more than 40 counts of child molestation.
Shasta County sheriff's deputies arrested David Leon Bishop at his home about 4 p.m. He was booked into Shasta County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail on multiple counts of alleged child molestation.
Bishop, who had been pastor of the church since the early 1970s, resigned from the church several months ago, but the exact circumstances of his resignation were then unclear.

Very sad. I hope as time goes on this is not a more common occurance in with in the world but more specific in this movement. I have a 2 yr old girl to worry about. Still very sad.

Sad, sad, sad situation. Did you scroll down the page and read all the comments below the article? There are more victims to this crime then just those he molested.

Unless there is corruption in the court, I believe he will be locked away for a mighty long time.

The Bible tells us there are wages to sin and no one is exempt. Everyone pays for their bad deeds at some point in their life.

If my memory serves me correctly, I think he was a Presbyter up in Northern California.

This is also such a sad ordeal for the good church members who will have to bare a lot of shame especially in a small town.

How does a church regain its respect in a community with this horrible story attached to the church.

How do the members ever regain their trust?

Kind of a weird situation because I think the church leadership is still in the "Family"..... that is something I don't really understand????

IMO, that church will never regain its respect in the community. The best thing to happen is a wise man come in and take the entire group to a different part of town, rent a storefront, and never let it be known that there is any connection to the old place. The new place should be viewed as if the congregants left the church and started attending a new place.

The members need to receive counseling from an outside source that does not have any emotional connection to the group. The best would be to find some secular counselor involved in crisis intervention to help these people recover.
