As for this being a set up for the "Tribulation Period", I lean Partial Preterist. So I don't think this is a set up for a seven year "Tribulation Period" with an Antichrist. However, I do see the possibility of a global tribulation coming upon us where the spirit of Antichrist becomes ascendant and we find our selves persecuted. This "tribulation" will most likely last longer than seven years. Might Christ return suddenly at some point? Perhaps, but we don't and can't know.
When the next great "tribulation" extends beyond seven years (should Christ tarry), and a series of "antichrists" begin ascending to power... our futurist friends are not going to know what to do. A lot of people are going to be shattered having believed that the end was near and that Christ was going to rescue them after seven years. The church needs to be praying and fasting like never before.
That's what I feel after having been in prayer about these sorts of things. Don't be deceived, some very dark and terrible days are ahead.

What do you mean when? As the only one with the
truly correct eschatology© here, I see the scenario you describe as having already been carried out many times over on many different scales.
The book of Revelation was supposed to be read "in the churches..." A blessing was pronounced upon
every one who read it. That means its message was just as applicable for one time as any other.
The book of Revelation tells us not so much about what will happen as it tells us what
happens.
