If you need help, don't let anyone stop you from seeking good counsel/therapy. It could save your life.

This mentality will always be with us, UNFORTUNATELY.

Uneducated preachers offering "shoot from the hip" advise to married couples, or fluffing through a counseling session with a suicidal teenager, or trying to cast demons out of individual with a severe mental disturbance is being called into question by authorities.

Pastors and ministers would do well to study to show themselves approved so they can administer healing and not add to the suffering of those who seek healing and comfort. Proper counseling methods based on biblical principles line up with the teachings of Jesus Christ. In my humble opinion, a person should be required to have a degree in Family, marriage and addiction recovery counseling before they can obtain a minister's license.

It greatly disturbs me that the philosophies of men are placed higher for some than the very Word of God.

The teachings of psych isn't anything new. It is as old as the world. All psychology is is applied philosophy, but who's philosophy? Certainly not God's! Because most of its tenants go against Biblical counseling.

Scripture makes it abundantly clear that "sound counsel" comes from the Word, and that believers are to avoid the counsel of the ungodly (Psalm 1). That means, we are to avoid the counsel that comes from the ungodly foundations as well (psychology/psychiatry have their foundations squarely placed on the philosophies of humanism).

No, not actually... it is more like this: Get real, long lasting, healthy Biblcal counsel, for the truth will make you free. In the long run, avoiding Biblical counsel hurts the people being counseled. God knows man - He made Him. It seems a bit arrogant to suggest that man's understand of man is better than the creator of man, don't you think?

If you need help, avoid like the plague humanistic counsel. Find a Biblical Counselor. There are lists for your area in places like www.nanc.com The Lord desires for you to be totally free, not merely drugged!!
