Re: Isaiah 3 and jewelry...

Let's make this quick and easy:

If Isaiah 3 is a sermon against jewelry, it's also a sermon against beauty, smelling sweet and "well set hair."

Why do people pick and choose?

Isaiah 3:24 "And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty."

The daughters of Zion weren't being punished because of their ornaments; their ornaments (among other things) were being taken away because of their sin.

Isaiah 3:16 "Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet: 17 Therefore the LORD will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts. 18 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon,"

The overall gist of this chapter is about women who draw attention to themselves both with their behavior and with their ornaments (making a tinkling with their feet). We KNOW that God didn't condemn jewelry across the board because of its legitimate use in other passages of scripture. However, one CAN use ornamentation to draw attention to oneself in an inappropriate way, the same as walking with "stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go" would.

"Mincing" is an interesting word...according to Strong's it means "apparently to trip (with short steps) coquettishly."

I've seen some completely unadorned Apostolic women "mincing" along.

Often because their splits were sewn up and they could barely move their legs.

Okay, this is seriously funny!!! I had a person say, "Your slit is a little high." I looked behind me and said, "Oh, really?" Then I walked off and forgot about it.

I always hoped a crazed nut didn't take off chasing me! I would have just gone kerplunk on my face, and it would have all been over.

I never sew my slits. If the back of me knees are not showing, I'm good. LOL!

And if anyone did chase me - I'd hike up my skirt and kick them where it counts!

I did hear of a woman that picked her nose and began to eat her boogers. It turned the attacker off. I think I'd prefer kicking someone as opposed to.....

Way to go missbrattified I checked out the tinkling with their feet but did not add it to my post. I love the way people fill in the blanks some times

The same person who was discussing this on the other thread (not the originator of this thread) also says that 1 Cor 11 has nothing to do with headship, therefore all women are subject to all men.

Ya, I already feel sorry for the buffoon who thinks he can order my wife around simply because he is MAN and she is woman. I'll be ordering his behind into pavement if he tries (if she doesn't do it first).

I think that these things can also be things to be mindful and watchful of.

The Bible also says...

Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

And before the standard response gets spouted out... no... I'm not saying God wants women to be homely. But if Pentecost is known for anything it is know for elaborate and even showy or gaudy hair styles.

I don't think the scripture was saying that these things, in and of themselves, is a sin. But I believe that these are things that can be just as damaging to the spirit of a person as it can lead them to haughtiness and pride.

As in all things a well balanced and moderate approach to these things that are mindful of God and His wisdom is the best route.
