Modesty as described by the General Youth Division

The following quote comes from the GYD's online magazine Inside Out describing NAYC 2009 concerning the modesty and "apostolic dedication" displayed at the event.

Quote:
Of course, with all that teenaged energy, there’s always the probability of spectacle. Young people came dressed in their “Youth Congress best” (that’s a multiple of 10 greater than your “Sunday Best”). Wednesday night forward, young people wore a wild display of outfits worth remembering. The girls displayed ankle-length dresses, unusual hair accessories, showy glasses, and, of course, the world’s fanciest hairdos. The guys were seen in vests (with and without suit coats), white shoes, and bow ties—though rarely as a combination.

Dan, why did you point out modesty, actually I see nothing wrong with the things you thought was important enough to mention. You could have said something about the following.
• During services and sessions, the arena hallways were remarkably vacant. The teens were there to draw closer to God and proved it with their actions.

• The worship soared as Justin Conway and the music team, a group of talented Apostolic musicians and singers, led everyone in heartfelt, contemporary worship in every service

• After services, it was not unusual to see teenagers worshipping in tongues—while being carried out on the shoulders of their youth leaders.

But if you did, you wouldn't be Dan.

This is not meant as a bash on the UPC or the youth at all.... I'm glad they were all there and had a great time.

But I think it is an interesting commentary on how our denomination defines modesty. Apparently modesty is only referring to the amount of skin that is covered..... and I don't think that is what Apostle Paul meant.

It's just interesting. Often times the same people who condemn wedding rings go ALL OUT in their clothing. It's just an interesting paradigm.

Re: Modesty as described by the General Youth Divi

This does not "shock" me in the least since it is how I remember every single camp service I ever attended. They may show less skin (ok, MUCH less skin) but they are every bit as done up as a blockbuster Hollywood red carpet movie premier. The only thing missing are the professional photographers and a mention on the show Entertainment Tonight.

Although not mentioned I am sure there were quite a few guys running back and forth at the alter during service trying to pick up women.....

It reminds me of when COGIC comes to town for the annual convention - - they are the talk of the town because of the way they dress!

Re: Modesty as described by the General Youth Divi

Interesting:

• Thursday morning featured a special “Apostolic Identity” session with Brent and Rachel Coltharp that not only celebrated and affirmed the Bible basis for our worldview, but also challenged the teens to live it out loud when they returned home.

So, this isn't just a DAII pinned expression - it's being propagated.
