As far as government/Hollywood/total strangers being able to watch you through your old tube based analog TV's, that is a total lie and fabrication. It is NOT possible. I remember being told the TVs that self adjusted to changing light conditions in the room were able to do so because they had a lens that sensed the light. The implication was that "in the future" the TV could be set up to "watch you!"
Instead, "the future" simply did away with the TV tube altogether. Modern plasma and LED televisions simply could not be fitted with such a feature within the tube, because there is no tube.
There was that school district in PA that had software installed in the school issued laptops that allowed school officials to turn on the web cam remotely -

Those were Apple Mac products which are notorious for hiding control features from the end user.
