Re: Meeting of AFF Members
Personally, I would not feel comfortable meeting someone of the opposite sex without my spouse present. And honestly, I don't really like it when I'm home alone and a serviceman comes to the house, either. Not a sin, just that I'm not comfortable, but I have issues.

That is your prerogative of course, but as a service tech that goes into approx. 1,000 homes a year, I would estimate about 400 of those have only a female present.
The only time I objected was when a 14 or 15 yr old girl oped the door. I asked where her parents were and she said she was alone and supposed to let me in. I called her parents from my cell phone and said I would wait until an adult could meet me before entering the home.

I really don't think it's a problem. I'm saying I have the problem, and thus am not comfortable.

Because Walt isn't big on going out to eat, which is where I would most likely meet someone of the opposite sex from AFF. I would never consider going alone to someone's house without their spouse there. But to meet up at a restaurant - I don't see any harm in it at all. But then I tend to be pretty open-minded.
I know this won't sound the way I want it to, but somehow when I hear someone say that they wouldn't want to be seen out in public by a stranger who would later come to their church, I want to say, "And why do you think that that stranger would have even noticed you at the restaurant? Are you so "all that!" that you would stick out to everyone and draw all the attention to yourself?" I hear what you are saying when you make the comment, but I just think it's a little over-board. But again, that's just me.

What is your opinion on this? Would you meet with a member of the opposite sex that you met online?
In one recent meeting one member was single and the other was married but met without their spouse.
What say you?
IS THIS CAUSE FOR CONCERN?

I would not talk on the phone one on one, get into a car or meet in private or public. To avoid the appearance of something going on.
My wife is welcome to meet all those who become friends.

As you continue to read you will see this thread is something of a joke - we were not alone.
Does your refraining from meeting or speaking to the opposite sex on the phone include business associations?
I agree that my wife is welcome to meet all...

Re: Meeting of AFF Members
The Bible says to avoid the appearance of evil.
The Bible also says:
Ec. 7:16
"Do not be overly righteous, nor be overly wise. Why destroy yourself?"
CAUTION and COMMON SENSE should work hand in hand. But if your conscience is offended, then don't do it. The Bible is clear that some of our Brothers and Sisters have weak consciences. We don't have to be bound by their weakness, but we should seek to avoid offending them as well. I say again, CAUTION and COMMON SENSE should work hand in hand.
St. Paul was so serious about this concept that he had Timothy circumcised as an adult male!!!
Just know that by our own interpretation of this scripture, Jesus Christ would have violated this scripture when GOD ALMIGHTY let a prostitute wash His feet with her tears and hair.
Also, when He was "chillin" with the drunkards and tax collectors, his good was evil spoken of. Could we be looking at this "don't let your good be evil spoken of" scripture in the wrong light?
You know, if they talked about our Master, are we to expect anything different? Look at what some corrupt folks try to make out the "relationship" between Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene.
To the corrupt, everything is corrupt.
An interesting article:

Re: Meeting of AFF Members
Lordy, I should have just mailed the book!
I can assure you there was no "appearance of evil" - - however, I didn't fix my hair or put on any makeup, so it was a bit scary! We were putting up my daughter's Christmas tree when we took a break to meet up with SH!
BTW, Stephen, my son bought a Starbucks Gold card - - he's so excited about it!
