I came across a website that I like while looking for something else a few weeks back.
This poem I found kind of interesting so decided to paste it in.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Salvation

Lech lekha!*

In the shadow of the Great Tower
a man ran, laboring,
not so young any more.

He ran through the Open Gates,
fighting the steady flow of emigrants and artisans,
of the hopeful and hopeless,
of those seeking human commerce and human contact.
He ran into the desert in solitude,
seeking a promise of salvation,
heeding a single command:
Get up and go!

The city had been named bab-ilani,
“Gates of Heaven”,
yet the holy book of the nomads would call it, “Chaos”,
and ridicule it as the self-center of babel.

Indeed, before its fall, it was
the center of Culture,
the jewel of Civilization,
the monument of Human Ingenuity:
The City
whose Great Tower connected humankind once again
with the gods, under one language, amen, for the first time since
The Fall.

But this man Abraham knew salvation was not to be found
in the seething shadow of great works;
rather, it is in the lives of sons and daughters forever and ever,
in the promise of children, and children’s children,
in the hope of a single child…
if it be his own.

And so, when he heard the voice
inside his mind, pounding between his busy eyes and deafened ears,
a voice that said, “Father”,
calling like a son from a sweet and tender future,
he ran forward, into the wilderness,
and did not look back.

-- TJ Mueller

* Normally the two words "Lech lehka" are translated as, "Go, leave, travel." What they really mean is: journey [lekh] to yourself [lekha]. Leave behind all external influences that turn us into victims of circumstances beyond our control, and travel inward to the self. It is there - only there - that freedom is born, practised and sustained.

Disclaimer: I don't believe that traveling inward to self is the place freedom is born. I believe real personal freedom and fulfillment is found in Christ Jesus.

Excellent thread Milady!

I found your Sunday thoughts about David and Ziklag particularly interesting as my Sunday morning message was texted from that passage.

Your mom's bathroom philosophy classes are a unique idea. It is amazing how that you take in and remember things that you see often. My grandparents have several plaques with messages at their home. One that has my grandmother's touch reads, "True friends are like diamonds, precious and rare." Another, and one that definitely has my grandfather's fingerprints on it reads, "He that thinketh by the inch, but talketh by the yard deserveth to be kicked by the foot."

Thank you sir!

I'm deeply honoured that you'd stop by and contribute to my feeble efforts at doing whatever it is I'm doing here. LOL. Just posting bits of this and that. Nothing that would match or compare with your gift with the pen and written word for sure.

My mom has saved stuff that she peeled off the bathroom wall and the cupboards. She was pulling it out for me when I told her I was going to post the stuff on the bathroom walls here.

I said, "Enough already Mom!"

Holy Fire

Moses called out the ewe's name,
thinking how strange the sound of his own voice felt
echoing back into his searching ears.
No wind. No distant noises from the valley. Only his one voice,
heightened in this strange solitude.

A wayward sheep had bolted from the herd,
and in order to find the one, he left the many behind.

There was a narrowing fissure, cut through a mask of rock
by an urge of ancient waters at the birth of the species,
and Moses leaned in, listening.
Some trick of nature, he thought, or trick of mind,
but a whispered voice touched his ear and,
wanting to find the source, he entered.

Both sides of the fissure pressed against him and he
could no longer bend to see his own feet or be certain
of his safety.

In a sudden coolness, his own breath billowed out,
forming clouds of life in the still air.

The end of this passage opened
onto an unexpected ledge with
all the world behind, and
at the edge of the precipice, roots in bare rock,
a flowering bush grew,
framed in a halo of flame.
And to his nostrils came the sweetest of scents.

"i am who am" whispered in his ears,
and he knew it was his God.
Moses fell to his knees, removing his sandals,
wanting nothing
to come between himself and this holy ground.
The cool air, pressing against his skin, made him aware
of the heat pouring from his body,
and he wondered if he, too, was on fire.
"i am who am" whispered again
as a hundred suns seemed to rise out of each opening petal.

(It was only afterward,
when recounting the scene in his mind,
that he questioned how the bush could have been
animated by fire, yet remain whole:
The fire that lights but does not consume.
Only afterward did he come to understand.)

"chosen, you are, to know this light;
to know this intent of being,"
continued the voice of miracles.
"this brotherhood, this i in you, this you in i,
extends beyond the ledge of humanity.
it beckons: set life free.
set life free."

(It was only afterward,
when repeating the words in his heart,
that he could unravel this riddle of freedom and being,
this whisper of love.
Only afterward could he translate the words
into his own life.)

In the fingers of flame he saw a vision of the future:
Himself...carving from the mask of rock a new law;
then, after lifting the chiseled tablet with great effort, throwing it down
again in disappointment. The voice offered an alternative:

"instead," he listened, "let your self be worked and carved;
know the i am in your soul of souls.
what you seek, this deliverer, is the i am
within."

Just then the wayward lamb bleated.

Moses lurched to the cliff's edge, without thought,
and gathered the ewe into his arms, cradling her.
Tears streamed down his face, tapping silently
on the bare rock below,
as Moses comforted the lamb, saying,
"You are not alone."

This is a wonderful thread with so many insightful and inspiring posts, but as I laid my head down on the pillow, this post in particular came before me.

There is nothng like the joy of the Lord to put a spring in our step and a smile on our face. His song of peace brings light into a darkened night and shines as the noon day...it is indeed joy unspeakable!!

"Happiness" is dependent often on circumstances. Joy is not. Joy is a result of something more than mere events and happening in our lives. Joy comes from the eternal "never will run dry" waters that we drink from the well of the Holy Ghost.

Joy is listed in Scripture as one of the "fruits" of the Spirit. If we have the Spirit resident then Joy should be co-resident. But if we're not attending to the Spirit or allowing the Spirit of God to work in our lives the way he wants and can ........ if we're not caring for and nourishing our spiritual lives then the "Joy Well" may very well run dry.

Joy also comes as a result of being obedience and submissive to the will of our Father. Walking hand in hand with Him and allowing Him to take the lead and determine where we go and the direction we're headed in.

Since my own "Joy Well" has been recently replenished and renewed I wanted to paste in these quotes that I found on my favorite quote site.

“He who has not looked on Sorrow will never see Joy.”
- Kahlil Gibran

“One joy shatters a hundred griefs”
- Chinese Proverb

“Joy is the holy fire that keeps our purpose warm and our intelligence aglow”
- Helen Keller

“Joy can be real only if people look upon their life as a service, and have a definite object in life outside themselves and their personal happiness”
- Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy

“A sense of humor... is needed armor. Joy in one's heart and some laughter on one's lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life.”
- Hugh Sidey

“If the essence of my being has caused a smile to have appeared upon your face or a touch of joy within your heart. Then in living - I have made my mark.”
- Thomas L. Odem

“Great joy, especially after a sudden change of circumstances, is apt to be silent, and dwells rather in the heart than on the tongue”
- Henry Fielding

“Joy's smile is much closer to tears than laughter.”
- Victor Hugo

“I certainly wasn't happy. Happiness has to do with reason, and only reason earns it. What I was given was the thing you can't earn, and can't keep, and often don't even recognize at the time; I mean joy.”
- Ursula K. LeGui

“The deeper that sorrow carves into your being the more joy you can contain. Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven?”
- Kahlil Gibran

Psa 5:11
But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy,
because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.

Thanks for the encouraging words Barb!

Days come and go. Some are more "shiny" than others for sure. God is good all the time!

So true, and such is life, girl. We all have those days which are not as "shiny" as the rest. Clouds come to my house, your house, and to the White House.

But the last sentence in your post tells the tale...God is good all the time!!

Whether it's sunny or cloudy, He is STILL God and STILL good!!

We are blessed to know this and understand the highs and lows of life. It brings balance and assurance that the One who knows us best loves us most, and is in complete control.

This thread has been a blessing to me, and I'm sure to the many others who read...I hope you feel the unction soon to post here.

I missed this when it was current so I enjoyed reading all of these uplifting gems today.
