You still have to pay for the care, St. Matt. There are some states that have programs to help pay for hospital bills for the uninsured. Kentucky is one of them. A friend of mine had to go to the ER a few years ago because a car he was working on slipped partly off the jack and pinned him under the car. Thankfully, another part of the car got caught on the jack and the whole weight of the car didn't fall on him. Anyway, he filled out some paperwork with a social worker, they verified that he didn't have any insurance, and his bill was paid. Indiana doesn't have that kind of help available. Also, there isn't healthcare available from the Federal government for anyone who wants it.

Have you ever met anyone that could not get medical treatment when they needed it?
Why do you think the price of medical care has risen so high? It is because of all the free care that is written off. It gets paid, but from everyone else.
And I really want the Fed Gov to take over the heath care industry since they have done so good with the Social Security system.

Have you ever met anyone who has been hauled into court because they couldn't pay for the medical care they received?
Also, there are plenty of procedures you would be denied in this country without the insurance or other means to pay for it. It happened to me once with an MRI. I got injured at a job I had, the company's own doctor made the appointment for me, and the clinic refused to give me the MRI because the worker's compensation carrier refused to pay for the procedure and I didn't have the money to pay for it myself.

LOL
I don't think we'll ever have a system like Canada's so don't worry guys. But we can have more available insurance at affordable rates. Obama's the only one supporting a vision that can achieve that.
When talking about the cost of health care...when the providers increase costs to make up for their losses and thereby increase the cost of insurance...don't forget to add the fact that this increase covers all the administrative fees and collection attempts involved, and what's necessary to provide for the profit margin. We're all paying for it...but in the most expensive way imaginable.

Bro...around 18,000 people die every year because they cannot afford treatments that could save their lives. Another 25,000 declare bankruptcy every year because they're being crushed by medical bills. We are America...we can do better than that.

*translation* I think the rich folks should all be penalized for having all that money. I have an idea, maybe we should raise their taxes.

How do you propose we solve the issue of uninsured Americans, Brother Eastman?

Penalize the rich for having all that cash? I do not have the actual source, but I recall reading somewhere that George Bush paid more taxes than John Kerry. Is that because the Democrats know how to find loopholes in the tax laws that they create?

No. The fact that 18,000 people are dying every year from conditions that are treatable merely because they couldn't afford insurance, and another 25,000 are crushed by medical bills and declare bankruptcy tells us something....many, if not most, of those who have the means to voluntarily help those in need who are dying...aren't. Charity hospitals, clinics, and health care providers, along with other charities, have reported low contributions. With that they are applying for block grants from the Federal government to help them remain open so they can help those in need.
Here's a thought...if those who are financially capable of caring for those in need (just one man...CEO of United Health Care got over 1.7 BILLION in stock options in 2006) would...there would be not need to appeal for a national health insurance program.
If those who have the means would care for those in need we wouldn't have an entire political party advocating a national health insurance program.
What do we do as a society....just sit back and allow those who could help just watch people die? Sorry, but taxation to fund such a system becomes a necessity because so many of those who could give...don't.
