Any clinician worth his salt would tell you that if you are taking Nyquil or Advil pms to gain an altered state of consciousness, that you my friend are misusing them. What you have totally bypassed is the question of "is there ever an appropriate use for alcohol?" And surely there could be....if you where having surgery and there were no other pain killers, if you needed an antiseptic, and other medicinal uses (and yes Nyquil contains a LARGE dose of alcohol). In those cases you are not misusing any product, the problem isn't with the product, it is with the mindset of escapism.
Even strictly humanistic thinking acknowledges the Pleasure/Reality Principle (Freud). Using anything to escape reality is not mentally or spiritually healthy. Period.

Sure. It tends to make weddings far more enjoyable for the guests. It is also great with meals and when watching football games. Silly question really.

Now let's think about that. Why would it make weddings more enjoyable? I know of several catering halls that require more security if alcohol is being served. It's not the cheese dip that's making Grandma feel like it's ok to shake her money maker. If you are using it for cooking or tasting or any appropriate use -Hurray.

If you just can't stand the people you are stuck with at a reception, or if your team stinks, then you should reconsider your uses.

I wasn't thinking that deeply about it, just that Jesus seemed to think it made for a better wedding or wedding reception as well......

And honestly, when I was a DJ I've been to many wedding which were filled with happy drunks and others which were wall to wall with loud annoying obnoxious ones. Usually the crowd that was nicer and more agreeable when completely sober were far better when sloshed. Those that were demanding and all around jerks before became much more so once the cheap wine started flowing.

And there is nothing more relaxing then watching a noon time game on a Sunday with a cool one, some wings, and a friend or three.

Anyone who has DJ'd weddings has my undying admiration and sympathy. And hey, I am all for wings and friends. Sadly, sober jerks become even jerkier drunks. (if that is a word)
