I think it's because Trump doesn't downplay it. He says that he is rich, "yet not in a braggadocious way". His point is that this should be our mindset in America - to make good - and he has.
One focus group said that even with his money, he connects with the people. Listening to him, he does seem to pull that off.
Romney seemed so out of touch. Do you remember the interview when he and his wife were gushing over shopping at Costco? It was so lame. It left you with the impression they played that up to look like they were in touch. Epic fail.
Trump doesn't play that way. Besides, he is almost 70 and rich - he is going to say whatever he wants, especially at this stage of the game. That's the fun part about this election. LOL!
