To have a meeting and invite preachers in from all over the country to hear the pastor sponsering the meeting just seems like ego to me? But I could be wrong when you are good folks need to hear you.
Elder, though I respect your opinion, I disagree with you here.
I have heard/watched a few of the opening night services for BOTT in the past, and it seemed to me it was nothing more than the Jr. Bishop setting the tone for the conference...like a keynote address I guess.
It nevered once occurred to me to consider it an ego thing...JMHO...
*****NOTE to Babs*******That was a misspelling!!! It was supposed to be "barbs" like a hook has barbs not babs or barb as a persons name. I apologize for my misspelling!
LOL! I get it now!!
I have family at the POA, so I get slightly upset if AM & POA is "picked" on for lack of a better word!!
Well, as i understand it, this is not a UPC sponsored Conference.
It's A.Ms conference that he puts on for ministers and their wives.
Many of them come not only to hear the guest line up but also to hear what he has to say. I think his message is more like a "conference address".
I agree with what Mark said, this is not a UPC conference. The members of POA are not even allowed in the main sanctuary unless they are in the choir or as ushers. They spend weeks in prayer, fasting, and preparation. They all give 150% to make sure that all visiting ministers are taken care of and that they receive what they have come to receive. It's a time for reflection and restoration and for hearing a fresh word. I tend to think that people that came to BOTT would be a little disappointed not to hear AM. If I was pastoring I would want to hear what a successful man had to say. Like MM said about Landmark, people come expecting to hear Bro. Haney preach. Why is it that we focus so much on what we can't do or can't wear that we forget other things in our lives. I can have my hair down to me feet and skirts to the floor and sleeves to the wrist but if my attitude is ugly then no one will want what I have. People may notice us for what we wear or how we look but it's the spirit that draws them...
Some people would notice and make a comment, but if it was a distraction they were very easily distracted.
No disrespect intended Rev, when I was younger I used to look at people's watch's, rings, etc. at church. Not so much the preacher but everyone. Most of the older people in the church did not wear any jewelry. Some of the younger ones did, such as wedding rings and engagement rings. And our pastor taught if you wore a simple gold wedding band it was fine. Never heard of anyone being told a watch was jewelry.

Reason: sp
BOTT is a meeting where preachers from all over the country come to be
recharged, refreshed, and revived. I think AM preaches at for the following reasons:
1. He feels he has an Edifying Word to share with those who come
2. He is in demand to speak at it. I believe people would be dissapointed if
he didn't. I know I would be.

You have been extremely sheltered then, sister. There are many churches around that teach this type of thing. I personally don't agree with it, but it does happen.

Good grief. But I bet they want everyone to be on TIME for church.
