Bubba says hey, he is on a new project... No time to peruse AFF while waiting for downloads, so he is in major withdrawal. He is having me check up though and make sure it is up and running without him....

Renda, the kids will have a problem if the pastor is saying not to and the mom is saying its OK.
Kids are funny about religion. They hate hypocrisy and nuance is often lost on them.
If the pastors approach is one of preference, then there is room for this family without worrying about the kids.
But if this is a serious issue for that pastor, confusion will reign and the kids wont be what either that pastor is or what their parents are.
15 years as a youth pastor gives me a unique perspective on the subject.
I completely agree - - that's why we left UPC when we did - - didn't want to confuse our kids.
However, I believe this church it won't be a big issue.

My motto is "be careful what authority you submit to." We are told to "obey them that have the rule over you."
If he is in disagreement with the spiritual authority in his life, the kids will pick up on it. I, personally, would stay out of the situation, because I can see no good coming out of attending a church that teaches doctrines a person disagrees with.
