Paul does command us to submit to earthly authority here in Romans 13.

and i agree to that, as a minimum. However, we are freed from the Law--and i guess i take this to heart. The conundrum here is pretty much apparent to all, i guess? I would religiously do the speed limit (if i drove), but spiritually ignore Obamacare. Everyone has to draw their own line--which we do anyway, right? So, it kind of becomes about justifying that line to ourselves, and self-checking for hypocrisy. The Scriptures tell us to obey authority; and Christ disobeyed "authority" to the death, following a higher authority.

We submit to laws as long as they don't conflict with the word of God. Remember Israel was occupied by Rome. Our Lord submitted to an occupying invader of the land and people that he ordained.

God has no problem setting up or setting down a person who is in a position of authority.
