Being in church all the time has nothing to do with living for God. Honoring your mother is a commandment, not something optional... and it seems to me that honoring her would include spending Mother's Day with her where ever she chooses.
For a church to not have the decency to at least get down to one service on a holiday is just cultish.

Matthew 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Aaheemmm...
From the ten commandments... you might have missed number 5...
“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you."
150 services a year and they can't give you half a day to spend with mom?

I do believe very much in honoring but the come second to God. I always honored y mama and always obeyed her. The last two years of her life I took care of her day and night, but never missed church. She would never have wanted me to has missed. She attened in a wheel chair and on oxygen as much as possible until bed ridden.

That is a sweet story. I also cared for my mom in her last years. But every family is different and just because your mom wanted you to leave her and go to church does not mean some other mom feels the same way. The church is for the people, not the other way around.
