Kings of Leon is an American alternative rock band. The members of the band are Anthony Caleb Followill, Michael Jared Followill, Ivan Nathan Followill, and Cameron Matthew Followill, however, the band members go by their middle names.[1]After various jobs, the brothers moved to Nashville in 1996. They formed a band in 2000 with their cousin Matthew Followill. The band claims that their music was influenced equally by their religious upbringing and Jack Daniels Whiskey... Caleb recalls listening to "Crimson and Clover" by Tommy James and the Shondells with his uncle, and cites it as the song which really made him pay attention to popular music. This song is later referred to in 'California Waiting' with the lyric "crimson and clover pulling overtime". They were members of the West Tennessee Choir for a short time mainly assigned to falsetto ranged harmonies

About the gangster point I was saying that music doesn't affect everyone the same. I wouldn't change who I am because of the music I listen to.

Yes the female body is beautiful and not that doesn't justify watching porn. Nothing does. My point is that if a good christian wants to listen to that type of music that is on them. Not all things are wrong, but not all things are profitable.

Formation and first years: 1999-2002

Nathan, Caleb, and Jared Followill were born to Ivan Followill, a Pentecostal evangelist minister, who traveled around the South. Caleb and Jared were born in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, while Nathan and cousin Matthew were born in Oklahoma City. [4] The brothers spent much of their youth traveling around the South with their father, Ivan, a traveling United Pentecostal Church preacher and their mother, Betty Ann, who taught them when they were not in school. The boys learned to play drums, guitar and bass as children while performing gospel songs in the church. According to Rolling Stone magazine, "While Ivan preached at churches and tent revivals throughout the Deep South, the boys attended and were occasionally enlisted to bang on some drums. They were home-schooled or enrolled in small parochial schools. Except for a five-year stretch when they settled in Jackson, Tennessee, the Followills spent their childhoods driving through the South, camping for a week or two wherever Ivan was scheduled to preach."[citation needed]


Nathan, the eldest of the brothers, graduated from Christian Life Academy (a private school that is now defunct) in Henderson, TN. Caleb dropped out mid-Junior year to pursue a job in construction but later quit to work on music with his brother Nathan.[5] Despite their religious background, they say their father would often play rock records in the car by musicians like the Rolling Stones, Neil Young, and Bad Company while their mother was not around.[4] After they signed with RCA in 2002, the boys invited their cousin, Matthew Followill, to join the band as the lead guitarist.[4]
