LOL!!! Good point, Timmy. God isn't going to comply with erroneous requests, is He?

Re: Is this ever a good prayer...is it godly love?

I had a friend of mine back in 1989 pray that, "God would do WHATEVER IT TAKES" to save his brothers in laws who were backslidden.

A week after that, he was "crushed" by a house he & his brothers in laws were trying to move.

Left behind a widow & infant son. He had good insurance so that part was taken care of.

Coincidence?

In God's Economy, I don't believe so.

Be careful in what you pray?

Most definitely!

When I was a backslider, people wouold come to me and say that they were praying that God would not let me sleep until I came back to the Lord. Having heard this spoke before about other folks, I never took it any other way than that folks cared.

However, not long ago I heard my former SS teacher and mentor say that this is NOT love, and should never be prayed, much less told to the individual in need of salvation.

So what do you think...is it a sign of love or not?! Is there any biblical precedent for praying in this manner?!
Sometimes the person praying for "God to do whatever it takes" is simply doing what they have been taught by their pastor to do. Our oldest son would be in the church, then back out again. This went on for 30 years and our pastor told us to pray for God to "lean on them" and "do whatever it takes" to save them. He also told another couple the same thing who had a girl who was our son's age (35). Both of us couples did this and both children prayed back through and were both dead within 30 days of each other due to hearts weakened by the drug use. Both families are dealing with these prayers. Sometimes we question whether or not this was God or just what was about to happen anyway. It's been almost 4 years now and we often wonder if they were saved or not.

Umm. So God killed the man, for praying that way? Mmmmkay. So, did it work? Did the brothers-in-law get saved?

Haven't seen it in a few decades. Used to watch it when I was a kid.

Does God kill someone when they die in a car accident? Heart Attack? Cancer?

We all are going to die somehow, sometime.

Guess I missed the point, then. You said he prayed, said he died, said it wasn't a coincidence. Did God cause the accident, in response to the prayer, or not?

Or are you just messin' with us?

Re: Is this ever a good prayer...is it godly love?

God didn't kill any of those people, the devil is the thief who only comes to steal, kill and destroy. (Jn 10:10)

God cannot answer any prayer that is not in line with His word. Any prayer not in line with the word, will open the door to the devil to answer it.

If you really want to gain some Biblical insight into this subject, get Charles Capps' book "How to Avoid Tragedy, and Live a Better Life".

Seriously... what's wrong with "God... show them just how much you love them! Woo them with your love"? Why do we have to ask him to do bad things to them? That's just dumb...

I know a preacher who says his mom used to pray that bad stuff on him. "God if he ever backslides, break his leg, God! Hurt him!"
That's stupid.
I'm in serious agreement with you here Ronzo. Yes, I said "agreement"
