Why I like the holiness people - Written in 1903

Sunday cooking is "unclean?"

Notice also: the writer sees these "Holiness people" as being something "new" in 1903. They aren't "old timey..." They're new and "here to stay..."

I for one am glad that "the church" has gotten away from condemning "secular newspapers" and "Sunday trains."

I always wonder about some of these "spiritual phenomena", and Bro. Nathan, you know me, you've run the aisles along with me at camp meeting, but these "holiness" people were Methodists- trinitarians. Catholics had "glory clouds" and aparitions of Mary and angels. Those holiness Methodist people kept a whole lot of rules, and experienced this "glory" your talking about. But when we consider where the Allegheny Methodists, Bible Methodists, Pilgrim Holiness and Wesleyans are today, they're as dead as a doornail. Anyways, I just thought I'd throw in my thoughts to stir some thought processes in others, I enjoy good discussions.
By the way, Nate, these holiness women wore hats... think that had anything to do with it? lol (inside joke, other AFFers, please don't start a hat debate)

The stories I referred back to actually happened in the Apostolic church after Azusa Street. These didnt happen in the methodist and baptist churches, but I will say that they do have stories similiar. I remember stories of Charles Finney, who had such an annointing on him that when he walked into a room, criminals and hardened street rabble would begin to weep. This hasnt been proven yet, but some say he actually spoke in unknown languages in prayer. Anyone remember the story of Charles Finney, the umbrella and praying for rain? There was a drought in the U.S. during his time, with no rain. People gathered together from miles around and asked Charles Finney to come and lead them in prayer. He showed up with an umbrella and as he was praying, clouds formed and it began raining. Thats an actual story. That DID happen.

I think, like I said before that the moving of God is very reliant on consecration. Thats biblical. Look what happened when Solomon consecrated the temple. A glory cloud filled the place and was so powerful that the priests could not stand to minister. But did you see clouds of the glory of God move into the temple during the reign of Herod? No......

As to your other comment.No offense to any people here, but the Pentecostal church isnt exactly lively these days. They have substituted the annointing for dowel rods, drama teams, smoke machines and light shows. The Pentecostal church is dead as a doornail itself in many respects.

As for that hat thing Bro. Alex, its a good thing you arent here bro, or you would be breathing out of your ears. Can anyone say......Plaster Rock? hahaha!! O man, I will never forget that and I guess you wont either huh bro?

Here is thing we should be striving for Holiness,we need true Holiness that glorifies The Lord Jesus Christ and not the phariseeical kind that puffs up the flesh.
