We attempt to use all styles in service, but very seldom do I listen to southern gospel by myself.
Five minutes, once a year.....
Yeah, I can do that.

Not that 4 part harmony is not a great sound. Not all "Southern Gospel" is either.
Gold City is one of my favorites. I bought a 25th anniversary 2-CD pack and love it.

I don't like Bluegrass either.
I can take about 5 minutes of it, butttttt that is about it.
I love harmony!

They say "Variety is the spice of life".
I believe there is room for us to enjoy and
have variety in our tastes for music. The
Bible tells us to "Make a joyful NOISE unto
the LORD, all ye lands, Serve the LORD with
gladness. Come before His Presense with singing!
My personal tastes varies! I like some southern
gospel, some quartets, some contemporary gospel.
Kinda like a buffet. A variety of tastes! To each
his/her own!
Blessings,

This is precious and why I like you!!
Now, it is no secret I suppose, to anyone who pays attention to what I post, where my affections lie re music...I am a 'Black gospel' fan...used to be a fanatic, but now I'm just a fan.
Anyway, SG is not something I can easily hang with, but as my dad was such a huge fan, it was ever present. Consequently, I have come to appreciate some of it.
Mom and I will be in Anderson, IN in March for a concert with the Collingsworth Family...SG, but really good. The mother of the group, Kim, is SUCH a tremendously anointed musician...has the late great Anthony Burger beat all to pieces.
Mother Falla is right...there is room for all tastes...

AMEN!!
Well, except for rock. I don't have any room for that. I do like Southern Gospel. I do NOT like twangy stuff, tho. Bluegrass doesn't cut it for me.
I think alot of what you like has to do with what you grew up with. I grew up with my parents listening to country music all the time. I'm not a big fan of country music now because I don't appreciate alot of the lyrics. But I think the "music" itself has been imbedded in me.

Thank you, Sis. Barb,
I also like Black Gospel very much!!! Incidentally, anyone who has the
late Anthony Burger beat all to pieces, has got it together as a musician!

I am sure in Heaven when it talks about is singing around the throne-it is going to be "Southern Gospel!"
This video is of my favourite group-Gold City Quartet. I saw them when they came to our city at a Church in our neighborhood about ten years ago.
Gold City is based in Dahlonega, Georgia.
Here is a Video of them at Bill Gaithers Homecoming Series.

Any other Southern Gospel lovers out there?

My two favorite genres of music are Christian Bluegrass and Southern Gospel. With regard to the latter, I'm particularly partial to The Cathedrals.

We don't twang and we won't twang. I really like good ole Bluegrass banjo pickin, but not for worshipping. I don't criticize anyone who does, but as has been stated already, different strokes for different folks.
I can worship to almost anything.
But we still ain't twangin'!!!!
