My Dad grew up during the great depression, in the inner city, with 12 brothers and sisters. It was rough! spam would be considered a treat, hot dogs a luxury.

He ate a lot of spam during world war II also.

Oddly enough, he never lost his taste for spam and my mom would have to buy it now and then so he could have "spam and eggs"

LOL! We cook a dish with Spam cubes and green beans that my kids literally grew up on about once a week. We all love the taste!

We grew up eating it fried with scrambled eggs. Eddie's family grew up eating it in everything, because in the jungles, they ate all canned meats. It was either that or monkey! So they ate Spam in lots of stuff. Eddie's mom even puts it in gumbo, and you would never know it, but it's a cheap "filler".

Why did your husband grow up in the jungles? where?

Most processed food will put on the pounds if you eat a lot of it. I prefer peanut butter to most luncheon meats for a sandwich.

I love olive loaf, but don't really like pickle loaf too much. They even have some kind of ham with little dots of cheese in it now.....ewww. I have never had Pastrami might try it.

A friend of mine makes "Green eggs and Spam" for her grandchildren. She scrabbles the eggs with green dye. Yuck! LOL!

I cannot stand lunch meat!! I like to purchase a turkey breast and slice that. Or boil a chicken and make chicken salad, or do egg salad or pimento cheese, albacore instead of tuna, etc.
