Just thought we might help each other....please do not bash those that hurt you but tell us what helped you overcome.
Yes and more than once.

How did I overcome? I made sure that I came to God, entered into His presence and allowed Him to love me and show His love for me.

As long as God loves me, I can overcome!

What good came out of it? I learned - "I will not fear what man shall do unto me"

More hurt by the "movement" than the pastor himself... and life moves on!

What men can mean for bad, God can use for good - as in the case of Joseph. You have to love that story. God's working in the pit. He's working in the prison. He's working wherever there is someone seeking Him.

Re: Has a minister ever hurt you?

When I was VERY young in the Lord (and in my own years) I had a wonderful pastor who also happened to be very, very strict. My parents were not in church and so I was required to live by his rules (unlike some of the kids in the church whose parents were in church and therefore got away with alot more than I ever could). I loved (and still love) this man and his wife dearly. But I will admit that there were many, many times when I was either angry with him for requiring so much or hurt for the same reasons.

At the same time, I was also blessed to have a VERY dear friend who was a real mentor in my life. This lady has remained a dear, dear friend to this day, almost 40 years later. One thing that she helped me to understand was that when I was angry or hurt, I needed to step back and examine the MOTIVE of my pastor.

I truly do not believe that he EVER did or said anything to intentionally hurt me. Or because he was on some power trip. Or anything like that. He did and said what he did and said because he loved me and he loved my soul and sincerely believed that what he was teaching and requiring of me was necessary for my salvation. I heard this man weep my name in prayer more times than I can count. I know for a fact that some of the subjects he had to come to me about were not easy subjects for him to discuss with me. Only love could have made him do what he did.

What did I learn from this? I learned that before I get all hot and bothered at something that someone does or says to me, I need to make sure that I understand what is motivating them.

Re: Has a minister ever hurt you?

Yep, but no way, no how is any man going to take away my salvation. As much as I've done and am forgiven, I'll always forgive those who have done wrong or hurt me. I just don't see how one can not forgive when they see God's mercy and grace in their own lives.

Besides, we don't usually see what we may have done or it might be that we are over reacting to something. Not always mind you, but it's better to error on the side of eternity and LET God be your God.

Do I always feel this way immediately? No way, but the Lord eventually leads me to this. I like it better when I do it sooner rather than later with anyone, not just the pastor or preacher.

Re: Has a minister ever hurt you?

Yes, I've been hurt by both pastors and saints. Sometimes forgiveness doesn't come easily. In fact, there are still some days that I struggle with the pain that those hurts have brought into my life.

Someone said something in an earlier thread that is soooo true...the common denominator is me, so I first have to examine myself. I'm not perfect...I know shocker for those who know me

Seriously, we are all human...if by chance we happen to get hurt by someone, we must realize that we hurt people as well. Someone else also mentioned that they have stepped back and have started to see God's favor. That's what comes when we have truly forgiven and been forgiven as well!
