Re: Est. 230 MPG WOW

Now if you put one of THESE in that car to act as a power source, you'll never have to charge it again!!

In time there will be a choice of services, probably. Some apt. and condos may provide them free as an amenity. Then when the market gets tight they'll start to charge.

There will be some sort of secure hook up, generally, to prevent "theft" of the precious juice. Since we have to destroy the rain forests and slaughter whales to generate electricity Al Gore and Co. will parcel it all out in meager helpings.

Then there will be hacks to get around "The Man."

But you'll have to pay the utility to operate your booth. Plus you'll have to get environmental impact reports before opening one up. Then you'll have to buy into some sort of Cap and Trade agreement to offset your carbon footprint. Then you'll have to sit there with a shot gun in your lap to protect the tap from being tapped.

Then you'll have to fend off the Feds because of the perceived threat your shot gun represents. Better to just buy dorky lycra short pants and ride a bike.

How does it compare with the Tesla?

General Motors is developing the Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle and its lithium-ion battery pack on parallel paths—and both have passed significant milestones en route to a targeted November 2010 launch.

Q: How many miles per gallon will the Chevy Volt get?
A: A bit of a trick question. For the first 40 miles it will get infinite mpg, because no gas will be burned. When the generator starts, the car will get an equivalent of 50 mpg thereafter. One can calculate the average mpg per for any length drive starting with a full battery: Total MPG = 50xM/(M-40)

However one disturbing thing I read a few weeks ago that is the dirty little secret they don't want the public to know about is that the high mileage numbers are based on the car being fully charged every night from a high voltage hookup. At present the reality is that this car will appeal to many urban owners who will not have access to those type electrical hookups as their cars park on the street. This means the gasoline engine will be operating a a lot more for those folks and it is not all that efficient in driving that generator to power the electirc motor.
If air at the C-store is 50 cents and a car wash with water is $1.00. A charge at a charge station for 15 dollars will make sense. It is likely to be much higher because you will sit there for 3 hours.
E-Z go make the golf carts I use. Good for a round of golf. Railroad locomotives are hybrids. They are diesel driven and electric motors at 6 wheels.
