From what I've heard, Bro. Mooney was "campaigning" or "positioning" for that political office for some time by having "cons" come preach for him and by speaking out publicly against compromise etc. whenever given the forum to do so. Maybe he really wanted the job but then when it was about to fall into his lap, the Lord dealt with him about it and he was sincere enough with God to withdraw his name.

True Sam. Though I'm an outsider too and I wonder why it was only after the voting done began that he withdrew. I don't doubt his sincerity, but if God was checking you before the voting, wouldn't it make more sense if he had withdrew his name before the voting began.
So even in this case he may not have done anything "wrong" but it wasn't exactly right to wait until he did to remove his name. If this is the case then why didn't he just say I should have listened to God sooner, instead of saying well at the last minute God checked me.
I can buy his reason for withdrawing being that God checked him, but if this is true it would seem that he should have handled the situation differently and withdrew sooner. I suppose it's hard to admit mistakes though, so I think this would be the reason he didn't come right out and say he made a mistake and should have withdrew sooner.
That's my thoughts on the situation.
