Also one of his sons is listed as pastor of Taburnaculo de Adoracion Jesucristo in Hamilton, OH which is in this area.

Burton also served in DR ... Sam ... if memory serves .. maybe I'm wrong.

Last time I saw him ... was when he spoke at a Spanish camp for the New York Metro district a few years ago ...

His toupee was a source of controversy.

I know of several in the ministry some Venezuelan and some Dominicans that consider him as a spiritual father.

Jim Burton from the Cincinnati area and his wife were fine people. Last time I saw his wife was when she was a speaker at my wife's cousin's funeral in a UPC a couple of miles from here. I did not know their children but I know they are of fine stock.

James Burton was quite bald as a young man at ABI when his children were still small. His wife's maiden name was "Schaefer" (that may not be spelled correctly) and she was from a good family in the Cincinnati UPC church.

When James Burton went before the UPC board (not sure if it was for license, ordination, or acceptance as a missionary) our pastor, Frank Curts who was Superintendent of Ohio UPC District said something like, "I've never done this before for anyone but I recommend we accept this man with no questions asked."

Bro. Curts did not hand out compliments lightly. At the church he pastored, they had Sunday School on Sunday morning, Children's meeting on Tuesday evening, Bible Study on Thursday evening, and preaching services on Sunday night and Saturday night. Bro. Curts would be gone from January until almost Easter but when he was here he would teach the Young People's Sunday School class (ages 16-35) and also the Thursday night Bible Study. Bro. Norman Paslay would ordinarily preach Saturday and Sunday nights but on rare occasions Sis. Paslay would preach. A couple of times I have preached there on Saturday night if Bro. Paslay would be gone or unavailable. Bro. Curts would not come to the platform on Saturday nights but remained in his office and listened to the service on an intercom. One Saturday night as I stood up to preach, Bro. Curts came down some back stairs from the office and sat in the back of the church. I was really nervous. It was intimidating enough to know he was listening on the intercom but it was scarier to see him there in person. I don't remember if it was the night he came down to the auditorium or some other night but the next day as he shook my hand after Sunday evening service, he pulled me toward him and said, "Good message last night. Stick with the Word of God." I took that as a compliment and still like to think of it.

Maybe,.... if I hadn't been such a maverick over the years......
I might be a UPC preacher today.

I also recall that as a young teen on vacation in DR we bumped into his wife in a market in Santo Domingo.

I don't know who it is now ....

I know the James Burton (recently deceased) for many years was the missionary to DR ... and have no doubt he visited the French-speaking side of the island.
Dan and Marian Vannoy were in Haiti; Rodney Vannoy pastored 92nd St., because we preached for him a couple times. They're brothers, originally from IL. I knew them when I was a kid.

Did Rod succeed Daniel @ 92CD street? I will ask elder Buie as he took that church after the Vannoys, I believe.

NA Urshan had a vested interest in that church as his dad started that church,

Re: UPC in Haiti

My bad, Sam! I had another JB in mind. Glen Smith - he was the regional director in the Caribbean and he founded the church there...then came Jerry Burns (mid to late 70's)

I believe the UPC missionaries to Haiti are Ron and Teri Brian.

Re: UPC in Haiti

I met a oneness pastor from Haiti a few years ago. He was in the states for a visit, but I think he was born in Haiti and serving there. He was independent, I'm sure. I can't remember his name, though. Praying for everyone in that country...

Re: UPC in Haiti

Hey Sherri .... the 92cd street church ... now Manhattan Pentecostal was pastored by the likes of AD Urshan ... Stanley Chambers ... and Howard Goss ... who was there for a short while .... What I didn't know is that SG Norris was there for awhile too ... as a saint I assume.

I checked their history ... and my recollections as a child were on point ...

Dan pastored there ... then left the church to Rodney when he went to DR/Haiti.

Dan had a really nice set of black hair, btw. lol. He and his wife were a good looking couple.

Where are the Vannoys now?

Man, it would be so cool if we could have all these Oneness groups belonging to the same global effort to reach the lost for Christ and help them in times of need like this, without regard for non-universal doctrines like standards
