The accessibility of porn and other people via the internet has definitely caused problems for a lot of marriages. There's no doubt about that. I just think it's more effective to address it on a case by case basis.
Why are you digging into this pastor's past to discredit him, TJJJ? If the affairs had just happened recently, you might have a point. Otherwise....

Miss B
No doubt the man does feel strongly about boundaries, considering his past. I do think that is why he made the stand about facebook.
As far as me diggin, don't know what you are meaning, MB. I was reading a local news article, it made the news. I knew that there had been a thread on our FAVORITE forum, , regarding this individual and just wanted to put my 1 1/2 cents in.
As far as discrediting him, he has already done it. I wouldn't follow him on anything he does or says. He is a disgrace to the ministry.
The reproach of adultery, and especially this kind of wife swapping that he partook of, is not something that just goes away after 5 years or so.
This gives a greater insight as to why he took a stand against facebook. Is it possible that, instead of the other people's problem with adultery, he is really the one? Obviously, by his own admission!
What we have here is a man that cannot stand, forcing others to go along with him.
What say you?

Please answer the questions, MB. Thank you.

I could not follow a "pastor" who has had moral failures while in the ministry. Whatever happens before, well, whatev.
God forbid I'm ever a minister... if I was, and I fell to immorality, I'd step down and NEVER seek to be restored to a ministry position.
I'm just too old school in that regard.

There is only one unforgiveable sin and it is not adultery. He has confessed and been restored to the satisfaction of his denomination and church.
I certainly don't feel a justification to condemn. Maybe he is more sensitive to a slippery slope. But its not my place to judge him forever unfit to pastor.
It is a one strike you're forever out mentality that has reeked havoc for so long in the mothership.

What questions?
I'm old school, too. I still don't like to purposely dig up the pasts of others. If something is in the *present* it's a little different; if it's in the past, I'd rather leave it there, especially if someone has repented and tried to move on.
His congregation apparently made the choice to have him as a pastor, in spite of his past, so if they're okay with having him for a leader, I don't know why it should matter to me.

The Pastor's indiscretions were 10 years ago. Many of us here were living lives of sin 10 years ago.
Now... if he discovered that his wife was "re-connecting" with the individual. That would definitely be a reason to address it in his own home.

It's not "you're out" as much as consideration for eldership, which is a great distinction.

I wonder how many elders in the first century church were originally Roman pagans who attended the pagan temple "activities" prior to conversion?

Re: HA! He's a perv himself! The Banning Pastor
Of course, maybe if he had kept his past indiscretions more private instead of dragging everyone into his personal business by banning Facebook among them, he'd still be serving. If his wife was contacting an old flame they had a liaison with ten years ago, I think he should have privately addressed the issue and not pulled the entire congregation into it.
