I hope you are serious - at least for the sake of discussion... in this thread.
What makes it problematic?
I understand they are carnal - at least in the sense that they are not spiritual, but how is that bad? Is exuberance and joy wrong unless it's spiritual in origin?

Thanks. Thought was what it was but wanted to be sure.

Right! LOL!
But it is a serious question. I would really like to understand the thinking better.

Re: Dancing: Ever acceptable outside Shockamoo?
I only have issues with dancing that is sensual; it should be reserved for private time with husband and wife. Otherwise, it's PDA and inappropriate, IMO. All other kinds of happy dancing should be allowed.

My thoughts exactly.

So you would stop your kids from dancing around the house or the yard? Moving to music at all? You don't ever groove to your favorite upbeat music? That's extreme. I'm not in agreement that all dancing is inappropriate. I dance around the kitchen all the time, by myself or with the kids.

Re: Dancing: Ever acceptable outside Shockamoo?
I think it's sad that many in the church seem have yielded wonderful things (dancing being one) out of a puritan nostalgia of sorts.

Years ago, some churches preached that dancing was sinful or worldly.
I think some allow square dancing but no other kind.
I think some people say it's OK if you dance with just your wife.
One preacher said, "Just because there is a band playing in the room doesn't give you an excuse to hug my wife."
Another person called it "dry intercourse."

Yeah, sensual dancing between someone not your partner is questionable. The question is "what is sensual" and is the dancing competitive or for pleasure/leisure? So much for folks to think about. I sure wouldn't be pleased with my wife having your body pressed against another man, as he rhythmically molests her... but that's just me
But there's so much more to dance that the trashy nightclub scene.
