Re: Wedding rings

Several times while I was pregnant it was assumed by those in the medical community that I was an unwed mother because I wasn't wearing a wedding ring.

"Avoid the appearance of evil" comes to mind.

There is actually, they are called "handcuffs", sometimes a person just has to wear them

What's funny is somoene preaches against rings while wearing a wrist ring that happens to tell time.

Even more humorous is when that same man brags about how expensive it is or what kind it is and how hard it was to find one that complied with his particular standards.
It's black, so it's not jewelry. It's only jewelry if it's a gold or silver watch.
Really. Then can I have a wedding band if it's black plastic? It'd cost a whole lot less than that "wrist ring" of yours.

When people in my "no ring" church got engaged, the man gave the woman a bracelet watch--one that looks exactly like a bracelet unless you see the tiny watch face. Didn't matter if it was gold or not. But no rings.

Re: Wedding rings

So how many of these anti-wedding ring/band preachers drive around in Lincolns of Cadillacs? The PRINCIPLE used (if it ever actually is in a UC church) that would be used to preach against big gaudy expensive jewelry could certainly be the same principle used to preach against anything gaudy such as luxury cars where someone is trying to tell the rest of the world that they are worthy of more honor then most.

Nonesense!

Many women/men can tell you they acted married and was still hit on, even with a ring. So without a ring they would have appeared fair game.

I wish the OP could get a grasp of what that scripture really means.

Thank you!

There are two occasions I will wear a jacket and tie: Wedding, Funeral. Nothing else. The tie is the most useless piece of decoration I have yet encountered.

A watch at least tells time and a wedding ring at least is a "taken" marker, but a tie? Useless uncomfortable thing around the neck. And jacket? Jackets are for when it is cold, nothing more.

Suit-tie, yet another stupid tradition.

I have a wedding ring to tell the world I am married and show my commitment, but do not wear a watch. It was agonizing at first but I just learned to use my cell phone when I need to know the time -which of course would get me in trouble with any pastor who preached against them. lol
